Position Description

Serco Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Administrator to join our team – (100% Remote). The Sr. Payroll Administrator will have key responsibilities for processing high volume, complex multi-state, and multi-FEIN labor and payrolls, ensuring a high degree of accuracy and regulatory compliance.

 

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to work effectively under pressure, independently, within a collaborative team-oriented environment using sound judgment in decision-making, excellent communication, and customer service to internal and external customers. The Sr. Payroll Administrator must be detail-oriented, analytical, and able to work well under deadlines in a changing environment and perform multiple tasks effectively and concurrently.

 

As required, the Sr. Payroll Administrator will collaborate with Human Resources and other Corporate Financial Services staff to create efficient processes as well as troubleshoot data and processes by researching issues and assisting with root cause analysis to define problems, recommend solutions, and to ensure stability and quality of the payroll process. This position will also be involved with payroll accounting, G/L reporting, and other payroll responsibilities.

 

This position requires flexible working hours to accommodate payroll processing and could require work on holidays and/or overtime. 

 

In this role, you will: 

  • Labor, Leave, and Payroll processing for over 10,000 employees in all US states, multiple US Territories, and foreign payrolls under SOFA. May support the Canada Payrolls in certain situations.
  • Process payroll and maintain payroll information as required:
    • Data entry for labor, leave and payroll transactions
    • Federal, State and Local taxes, including quarter and year-end reconciliations; Support year-end W-2 processing and audit
    • Gross to net calculation, audit, and balancing
    • Calculate and process off-cycle checks as needed
    • Prepare and maintain related payroll records and reports
  • Compile data from a wide variety of sources (e.g., timesheet/payroll processes, salary adjustments, tax deposits, etc.) for the purpose of analyzing issues, ensuring compliance with mandated requirements, and monitoring payroll components.
  • Reconcile account balances for the purpose of maintaining accurate account balances and complying with related policies, practices, and regulations.
  • Research discrepancies with payroll information (e.g., time sheets, leave time, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and adherence to procedures prior to processing.
  • Inform personnel, service providers, and internal departments regarding required documentation and procedures for the purpose of conveying information necessary to complete transactions.
  • Verify and audit a variety of payroll related information (e.g., time sheets, direct deposits, wage attachments, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accurate distribution of funds and payroll.
  • Maintain, prepare, and oversee the preparation of a variety of payroll related documents for the purpose of documenting activities and issues, meeting compliance requirements, and providing audit references.
  • Document and update current processes and procedures as required.
  • Work directly with payroll vendors to resolve any discrepancies or system issues.
  • Audit payroll reports after each payroll run to confirm accuracy of wage, tax, and deduction information.
  • Identify and document all issues/errors and resolutions for future reference and process improvements.
  • Support the Payroll Help Email and hotline for issues relating to payroll, leave, and timekeeping/labor.
  • Advise employees and managers on company policies and guidelines.
  • Run payroll output interfaces and reports, transmit to outside vendors for processing, and collaborate with HR and IT on maintenance and enhancements.
  • Review system updates and follow up with HRIS staff as required.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Associate degree
    • Or a High School Diploma/GED with relevant years of experience in lieu of degree
  • 8 years’ experience with processing high volume, multi-state payroll consisting of 5000 employees
  • U.S Citizenship is required
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal payroll/tax regulations
  • Very high attention to detail; organized and thorough with a desire for continuous improvement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills; high degree of proficiency with MS Excel

Additional desired skills and experience:

  • 2 or more years experience with Deltek Costpoint Labor, Leave and Payroll strongly preferred, experience with ADP payroll applications a plus
  • 2 or more years of experience in a government contracting environment; experience with unions and wage determination contracts, including SCA, strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of Accounting/GL reporting experience related to payroll accounts 
  • Working knowledge of Cognos Impromptu a plus

In compliance with state and local laws regarding pay transparency, the salary range for this role is $62,400.00 to $101,400.00; however, Serco considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
