What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at Sequoia Living?
We are hiring a Senior Accountant, someone who analyzes general ledger accounts, assists with annual budget process, and prepares and/or assists in the development and preparation of reports/statements issued by both the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and the Controller. Performs a variety of accounting duties in support of the Accounting Department and in accordance with Sequoia Living policies and procedures. What You Will Do:Analyzes and prepares general ledger journal entries, fixed asset tracking, monthly balance sheet reconciliation, and bank reconciliations in a timely manner. Oversees various system interfaces with general ledger application.Ensures accurate and timely month-end close; produces month-end financial reports and promptly issues them to appropriate personnel.Reviews financial data for accuracy; identifies problems and supports day-to-day operations in the Accounting Department.Supports maintenance and ensures accuracy of sub-ledgers and related systems. Reconcile subledgers to General ledger.Maintains fixed assets file. Analyzes fixed assets and capital project accounts, and prepares monthly reports.Assists in cash flow analysis including, but not limited to, tracking cash flow activities, preparing reports, and analyzing information for management.Prepares tax returns, government regulatory reports, government filings, financial reports, budgets, statistics, and statements including but not limited to, Sequoia Living, Sequoia Living Foundation, Sequoia Living Pension Fund, California Department of Social Services, HUD, and Community Services Department.Maintains accounting for assets of Defined Benefit Pension Plan and other Sequoia Living investments managed by outside agents and vendors.Prepares schedules for year-end audit and assists with external audits.Prepares payment vouchers and resident letters, as needed.Interviews, hires, supervises, trains, motivates, and performance management of Senior Accounting Specialist. Provides full back up to the Senior Accounting Specialist – AR. (for Sr. Accountants who supervise only)Ensures that Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) requirements are being met and in compliance with Sequoia Living policies and procedures and the California Code of Regulations, Title 8. Who You Are:Comprehensive knowledge of accounting practices and procedures. Knowledge of GAAP accounting (non-profit and for-profit), financial statements, journal entries, and general ledger. Strong knowledge of general ledger and ability to identify, analyze and correct errors. Organizational and analytical skills to plan and complete work assignments with minimal supervision and within established deadlines. Proficient skills with Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Outlook) and highly proficient in Excel. Demonstrated skills in the area of accounts receivable, accounts payable, finance, and internal controls. Ability to quickly learn accounting, property management and general ledger/financial writing software applications. Ability to analyze financial information and to recommend journal entries as appropriate to ensure Financial Statements are accurately and properly stated according to GAAP. Ability to identify, analyze and correct errors. Salary : $94,200 - $110,700
