The Sequoia Humane Society is a community leader in promoting the humane treatment of all animals, by running its no-kill shelter, and operating educational, foster and adoption, spay/neuter, and microchipping programs. Additionally, the Humane Society advocates for responsible pet ownership and works to reduce pet overpopulation. Activities are supported through fundraising, community outreach, and proceeds from our thrift shop.
The Executive Director acts as chief administrator of the Sequoia Humane Society, performing and overseeing duties such as financial management and budgeting, fundraising, shelter and thrift shop operations, personnel supervision, volunteer management, marketing, and public relations.
This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive; the Executive Director will also perform other reasonably related duties that may be requested by the Board of Directors which will ensure a positive public image, enhance the operation of the organization, improve the quality of life for animals, and improve the overall services of the Sequoia Humane Society.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Board Collaboration and Development

With the Board of Directors, support the Sequoia Humane Society vision, mission, and strategic plan to guide the organization

Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors in policy and significant personnel decisions, fundraising, and the overall visibility and effectiveness of the organization in the community

Prepare and present monthly reports on all aspects of the organization

Human Resources Management

Establish, implement, and maintain employment and administrative policies for day-to-day operations in a safe, collaborative working environment

Complete regular staff performance reviews

Oversee volunteer recruitment, training, and management

Operations Management
-
Oversee maintenance and operations at the shelter and at the Tailwaggers Thrift Shop, including supervision of the managers, staff, volunteers, and shelter animals

Develop the annual budget, and administer funds accordingly

Review and approve contracts for services

Community Relations, Fundraising, and Marketing

Implement major annual fundraising events, and public relations
-
Foster strategic partnerships with governmental agencies, local media, community groups, and businesses

Develop funding opportunities such as grants, donor acquisition, business sponsorships, and legacy plans

Serve as the Sequoia Humane Society’s primary spokesperson

Enhance public perception of SHS by maintaining a positive image in the community.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum three years management experience with a similar level of responsibility

Diplomatic interpersonal skills leading to positive working relationships

Proven ability in preparing, attaining, and administering grants

Ability to effectively supervise high-performing teams

Experience with volunteer management

Strong written and oral communication skills

Current technology tools and software proficiency

Availability to work full-time, flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays when required

Reliable transportation to be present at the shelter, the thrift shop, and off-site events

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, bend, scoop, and use hands and fingers

Much of the work is performed at an animal shelter with the potential for exposure to environmental factors such as temperature variations, high noise levels, zoonotic diseases, animal waste, and hazardous chemicals or chemical materials requiring OSHA Material Safety data sheets
