Commercial Construction SuperintendentJob Summary
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Construction Superintendent to oversee multiple commercial construction projects or large-scale projects from start to completion. The ideal candidate has extensive field experience, strong subcontractor coordination skills, and a proven ability to deliver projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This is a senior-level leadership role requiring strong communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Oversight
- Manage all on-site construction activities across one or multiple commercial projects
- Coordinate daily operations, site logistics, and workforce planning
- Maintain an organized and efficient jobsite with consistent supervision
Scheduling & Production
- Develop, update, and maintain detailed project schedules
- Coordinate subcontractor sequencing and critical path activities
- Ensure project milestones and deadlines are achieved
Quality Control
- Inspect work to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and industry standards
- Enforce quality control measures and ensure deficiencies are corrected promptly
Safety Management
- Enforce OSHA regulations and company safety policies
- Conduct safety meetings, audits, and site inspections
- Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant jobsite at all times
Subcontractor & Vendor Management
- Supervise and coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors
- Ensure trades meet performance expectations for quality, manpower, and schedule
- Resolve conflicts and address performance issues as needed
Materials & Logistics
- Plan and manage site logistics, deliveries, and material handling
- Coordinate equipment usage, storage, and site access
- Ensure materials are delivered on time and meet project specifications
Budget & Cost Control
- Monitor labor, equipment, and material costs in the field
- Review and approve subcontractor work and invoices
- Minimize rework, waste, and unnecessary change orders
- Communicate cost impacts or delays to project management
Communication & Documentation
- Act as the primary on-site point of contact for project managers, owners, architects, and inspectors
- Maintain daily reports, logs, schedules, and photo documentation
- Utilize project management software such as Procore, Buildertrend, or similar
Inspections & Compliance
- Coordinate inspections with local authorities and third-party inspectors
- Ensure full compliance with building codes, permits, and regulations
- Manage punch lists, substantial completion, and final turnover
Risk Management & Leadership
- Identify and mitigate risks, delays, and design conflicts
- Proactively resolve field issues and escalate when necessary
- Lead, mentor, and develop assistant superintendents and field staff
- Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality
Qualifications
- 10–15 years of commercial construction experience
- Proven experience managing commercial projects (e.g., retail, office, industrial, healthcare, or multi-family)
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, building codes, and safety regulations
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and contracts
- Proficiency in construction scheduling and project management software
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk, stand, and climb on active construction sites for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to work safely in varying weather and site conditions
