Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented Drafter to join our manufacturing team. The Drafter will be responsible for creating precise technical drawings and plans for enclosed trailers and Division 5 metals using CAD software. This role is essential for transforming standard and custom trailer concepts into clear, accurate documents for manufacturing and assembly.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed 2D and 3D drawings of trailer components, assemblies, and systems using SolidWorks and/or Chief Architect
- Prepare detailed 2D and 3D drawings of steel building components, assemblies, and systems using SolidWorks and/or Chief Architect
- Revise and update existing drawings to reflect changes, improvements, or customer requirements.
- Collaborate closely with Manufacturing team to interpret sketches, notes, and specifications.
- Create and maintain bills of material (BOMs) and ensure all drawings are properly documented and organized.
- Check drawings for accuracy and compliance with company and industry standards.
- Assist in developing and updating technical documentation, manuals, and assembly instructions.
- Communicate with production staff to resolve drawing-related questions or issues.
- Ensure all work meets applicable safety and regulatory standards for trailers and transportation equipment.
- Support continuous improvement efforts by suggesting enhancements to drafting processes and standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (required); experience with Chief Architect or similar CAD software preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all work.
- Basic understanding of mechanical design principles, especially related to structural assemblies.
- Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, materials, and trailer construction (preferred).
Preferred Experience
- 2 years of drafting experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience creating drawings for trailers and/or custom RVs.
- Experience creating drawings for steel structures and related equipment such as stairways, mezzanines, and handrails.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations for trailer design.
- Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems and document control.
Additional Notes
- Candidates with knowledge of metal fabrication and trailer assembly processes will be given preference.
- The ability to adapt to changing project requirements and work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment is important.
- Strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving are highly valued.
