What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Investigator - Desk position at Sentry Insurance?
We’re currently looking for an analytical individual who possesses a high regard for attention to detail to fill our SIU Desk Investigator position. This is a Desk Investigator role, and you’ll be responsible for assisting in the identification and resolution of suspect claims.
This role will create and maintain an ongoing awareness on the part of all claim file handlers toward recognition of "red flags" in claim cases, leading to the detection and resolution of potentially suspect and/or inflated claims. Conducts basic to moderately complex claims investigations which may include but is not limited to compiling and analyzing information from internal and external sources, conducting interviews, hiring independent contractors, and referring claims to various law enforcement entities as required by law.
This position has the potential to work remotely anywhere within the United States.
What You'll Do:
Investigates basic to moderately complex claims, inside the office, to identify suspect or inflated claims across all lines of business. This may include conducting scene investigations, taking recorded statements, assigning independent contractors, etc
Compiles and analyzes data and information from internal and external sources, including data extracts, claims systems, payment and medical bills, video and photos, contracts, public record information systems, other insurance carriers, and law enforcement files to aid in making suspect claims decisions that adhere to state and federal laws. Verifies legitimacy of documents, as necessary
Conducts recorded interviews and examinations under oath of insureds, claimants, and witnesses for claims that involve suspicious indicators
Maintains detailed investigation information within SIU case management and claims system. Prepares summary reports to capture findings and recommends course of action to management, which may include referring to law enforcement
Communicates with company, industry and law enforcement fraud agencies, i.e., NICB, Index Bureau, FBI, Postal Authorities, etc. to obtain assistance in conducting investigations
Represents the company in court appearances as a possible witness on suspected fraudulent claims, including state and/or federal courts or grand jury hearings
Obtains, evaluates and acts on information received from law enforcement agencies concerning suspicious claims and other insurance companies on related loss information
Communicates non-confidential material to claim staff concerning conclusions on suspicious claims submitted to the SIU
Participates and leads in ad hoc projects intended to address specific claims related needs/issues. This may involve project management, research and collaboration with multiple resources
Motivates the claim staff to combat fraud and inflated claims using techniques such as creating office banners and visual aids, publishing specific case results and conducting motivational meetings
Accountable for controlling costs for contracted activities
Performs other job-related duties as assigned from time to time
What It Takes:
Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience
Must have 3-5 years of SIU experience with a carrier
Must have experience as a desk investigator
Must have experience handling FL claims to include PIP and auto glass
Preferred candidate resides in Florida
Bi-lingual encouraged / preferred
Strong investigative skills along with ability to work effectively with members of the Claim staff and the law enforcement community
Strong written and oral communication skills and the creativity to recognize potential fraud and develop a reasonable plan for investigating potential fraud cases
Prior experience in some aspect of law enforcement and/or criminal investigation preferred
Associate must have the ability to travel as necessary to satisfactorily complete their job responsibilities as assigned
