What are the responsibilities and job description for the Master Electrician - Signatory position at Sentry Electrical Group, Inc.?
Position Summary:
We are seeking a licensed Master Electrician to serve as our signatory electrical professional on a major solar construction project based in Albion, Michigan. The successful candidate must hold a valid and active Michigan Master Electrician license and must be able to be designated as the signing master electrician for permitting and code-compliance purposes for this project only (i.e., their license must not be concurrently committed to another contractor as signatory). The role may be structured either as Signatory Only (primarily permitting/oversight) or as a Working Master Electrician onsite; the final role will be determined during interview/selection.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the designated Master Electrician of record for permitting and inspections for the solar project.
- Ensure all electrical work on the site complies with the Electrical Administrative Act (Act 217 of 1956), the State Construction Code Act (PA 230 of 1972) (Part 8 rules), the current Michigan Electrical Code, and the applicable National Electrical Code.
- Provide oversight, reviews, and inspections of electrical work executed by the field crew and subcontractors.
- Work with project management, permitting authorities and inspectors to facilitate approvals and compliance.
- Optionally perform hands-on field work as a working Master Electrician (if this role format is selected).
- Maintain documentation of licensing, inspections, code compliance, and permit sign-offs.
Required Qualifications:
- Active and valid Michigan Master Electrician license in good standing.
- Able to act as signatory Master Electrician for the company/project, and not currently acting as the signatory Master Electrician for another company at the same time (consistent with Michigan requirement that a Master Electrician cannot serve more than one contractor/signatory role concurrently).
- Strong knowledge of NEC, Michigan Part 8 rules, and practical experience in large-scale electrical installations, preferably in renewable energy or solar construction.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interface with permitting authorities, inspection departments, and project teams.
- Willingness to work in field conditions onsite in Albion, Michigan for the duration of the solar project.
- Ability to travel, manage documentation and maintain compliance with safety and quality standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a signatory Master Electrician on large construction projects (solar or industrial).
- Working experience in solar PV electrical systems.
- Knowledge of local permitting and inspection processes in Michigan.
- Proven leadership skills in supervising electricians and subcontractors.
What We Offer:
- Competitive salary and benefits (to be discussed).
- Clear role structure: choose between Signatory Only (less field overtime) or Working Master Electrician (hands-on).
- Opportunity to work on a major renewable-energy project and play a key role in its electrical compliance and execution.
- Supportive project team and well-defined scope of work.
