Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP) Counselor

Position Summary

The PRP Counselor is responsible for providing direct support and skill-building services to clients enrolled in the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program. This role focuses on helping adults and/or youth with mental health diagnoses develop the social, emotional, and daily living skills needed to achieve greater independence, stability, and community integration. The Counselor works under the supervision of the PRP Program Director and in collaboration with the treatment team to ensure services are client-centered, recovery-oriented, and compliant with COMAR and Medicaid regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one and group psychiatric rehabilitation services in accordance with individualized rehabilitation plans.
• Complete required monthly visits: - Adults: minimum of 6 visits per month - Minors: minimum of 3 visits per month
• Assist clients in developing independent living skills (e.g., self-care, budgeting, nutrition, transportation).
• Support clients in enhancing social skills, communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
• Encourage and support clients in identifying personal strengths, setting goals, and achieving milestones.
• Maintain consistent, professional boundaries and foster a safe, supportive environment.
• Document all services accurately and in a timely manner in compliance with Medicaid, CARF, and agency policies.
• Monitor client progress and communicate updates to supervisors and the treatment team.
• Participate in staff meetings, supervision, and ongoing professional development.
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support when needed.
• Ensure confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA, COMAR, and organizational policies.

Qualifications

• Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or related field preferred.
• Experience: At least 1 year of experience working with individuals with mental health conditions or in a human services setting preferred.
• Skills: - Strong interpersonal and communication skills. - Ability to work effectively with diverse populations. - Empathy, patience, and the ability to motivate clients. - Reliable, organized, and detail-oriented in documentation.
• Other Requirements: - Must be at least 21 years of age. - Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred. - Ability to pass background checks in compliance with state and agency regulations.

Work Environment

This position requires working in community settings, client homes, and/or office environments. The role may involve local travel, moderate physical activity, and occasional exposure to crisis situations.
