Job Overview
We are seeking reliable, detail-oriented Medical Janitorial / Custodial Specialists to perform routine and deep cleaning services across administrative, common, and clinical areas at the Dayton VA Medical Center campus. This role is essential to maintaining strict infection control standards and protecting patients, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical & Office Cleaning: Perform daily cleaning and disinfection of exam rooms, laboratories, reception areas, lobbies, breakrooms, and offices using EPA List N hospital-grade germicides.
- Restroom Sanitization: Conduct thorough daily cleaning, descaling, and sanitizing of all restroom fixtures, partitions, mirrors, counters, and floors. Continuously monitor and restock paper products, hand soap, and hand sanitizer.
- Floor Care Operations: Execute routine floor care including vacuuming, dust mopping, damp mopping (using double-bucket or microfiber systems), weekly floor buffing, and quarterly hard-floor stripping/refinishing or semi-annual carpet extraction.
- Waste & Biohazard Management: Safely collect and dispose of trash and recyclables. Handle sealed medical biohazard containers ("Red Bag" waste) and sealed sharps containers per established protocols, depositing them into designated soiled utility rooms.
- Safety & Equipment Care: Safely operate and maintain commercial equipment (HEPA vacuums, auto-scrubbers, buffers). Maintain clean housekeeping carts and ensure mop heads and cleaning materials are sanitized daily. Display appropriate wet floor warning signage at all times.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of commercial, institutional, or healthcare cleaning experience preferred (knowledge of terminal room cleaning, CDC/OSHA bloodborne pathogens, or Joint Commission standards is a strong plus).
- Federal Background Clearance: Must be able to pass a federal background investigation to obtain a VA Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Security Badge prior to starting work.
- Physical Capability: Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift up to 40 lbs for extended periods.
- Professional Attire: Must adhere to uniform standards (company shirt/badge) and wear mandatory slip-resistant, closed-toe work shoes.
- Reliability: Must have reliable transportation to and from 4100 W Third Street, Dayton, OH.
Pay & Benefits
- Pay Rate: $16.50 – $19.50 per hour (aligned with prevailing federal SCA wage determination)
