Transition to Practice/ Nurse Residency Program
Welcome to all nurses moving into this specialty. The tracks of the WH TTP program focus on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in Labor & Delivery (L&D) (14 weeks), Labor-Delivery-Recovery-Postpartum (LDRP) (16 weeks), Antepartum (12 weeks), Mother/Baby (12 weeks), or Nursery (12 weeks).
Program includes:
Formal delivery of fundamental WH nursing concepts and standards via Perinatal Orientation and Education Program (POEP) modules blended with in-person sessions utilizing case studies, gaming, simulation, and skills labs
Exposure to Sentara policies and evidence-based practice guidelines as recommended by the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses
Hands-on experience in WH alongside a trained nurse preceptor
Opportunity to share experiences and network with peers in a safe, protected environment
Series of virtual professional development sessions with mentoring (optional for experienced nurses)
