Payroll Specialist

We are looking for someone who brings strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and a friendly, approachable style. Previous payroll experience is preferred, but just as important is a willingness to learn, grow, and contribute as part of a collaborative team.
The Payroll Specialist manages end-to-end, high-volume payroll processing, including complex adjustments and retroactive calculations in compliance with Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) weighted average requirements. This role supports audits through data analysis and reporting, resolves payroll inquiries with a customer-focused approach, and processes and reconciles manual and exception payments. They administer multi-state withholdings, ensure compliance across pay practices, and perform pre- and post-payroll reviews to maintain accuracy and mitigate risk.
Monday through Friday, 8-4:30 position at 1330 Sentara Park, Virginia Beach, Virginia

Key responsibilities
- Process payroll for employees across multiple departments
- Ensure accurate calculation of wages, overtime, shift differentials, and on-call pay specific to healthcare roles
- Maintain and update payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and compensation changes
- Review and audit payroll data to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Manage payroll-related deductions including benefits, taxes, and garnishments
- Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to resolve discrepancies and improve payroll processes
- Prepare payroll reports and assist with audits as needed
- Support year-end activities including W-2 processing
