Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented experienced Buyer for Manufacturing to join our materials team. In this vital role, you will drive the sourcing, purchasing, and supply chain management processes to ensure seamless production operations. Your expertise will help optimize inventory levels, negotiate favorable contracts, and leverage advanced ERP systems to support manufacturing excellence. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence procurement strategies and contribute to the efficiency of our manufacturing processes through innovative sourcing and supply chain solutions.

Responsible for reviewing, analyzing, sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing production materials, electronic components, printed circuit boards, printed circuit assemblies, MRO supplies, services, and other commodities in accordance with company requirements. Maintains accurate MRP/ERP purchasing data, monitors supplier performance, resolves pricing, delivery, quality, and material variances, and ensures complete purchasing documentation. The Buyer works closely with Materials, Engineering, Production, Quality, Accounting, and suppliers to support inventory objectives, production schedules, customer requirements, cost savings initiatives, and committed ship dates.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Source, evaluate, negotiate, and manage suppliers to support material availability, cost savings, quality, lead time, and supply chain objectives.

2. Place and manage approved purchase orders for printed circuit boards assemblies, electronic components, machined parts, custom products, MRO supplies, services, and other assigned materials in a timely and accurate manner.

3. Coordinate outsourcing of custom products, machined parts, and subcontracted assemblies with approved vendors while ensuring requirements, drawings, specifications, and documentation are clearly communicated.

4. Ensure timely purchasing, delivery, material flow, and supplier communication to support finished goods inventory objectives, production schedules, customer requirements, and product lead times.

5. Review, analyze, and convert MRP/ERP requirements into purchase orders; verify pricing, lead times, quantities, delivery dates, purchase order terms, and supplier acknowledgements.

6. Run reports, queries, and spend or inventory analyses as needed to determine appropriate purchasing actions and maintain proper stock levels in accordance with department guidelines.

7. Input, review, and maintain MRP/ERP part data, including supplier information, lead times, pricing, minimum order quantities, order multiples, safety stock, and other purchasing parameters needed for accurate buy reports.

8. Identify, communicate, and follow through on part obsolescence, allocation, shortage, and supply risk issues to ensure replacement parts or alternate sources are identified in a timely manner.

9. Monitor open purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery, expedite or defer orders as required, communicate supplier delays, and coordinate recovery plans before deliveries become delinquent.

10. Work closely with engineering on parts, ECOs, and supplier change notifications as directed; coordinate material disposition, purchase order updates, and implementation of affected parts.

11. Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier communications, quote history, and supporting documentation; attend meetings, visit suppliers when needed, and perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Strong negotiation, sourcing, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of Word, Outlook, and purchasing/MRP/ERP systems

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with suppliers and internal departments

Strong attention to detail, planning, organization, follow-up, and documentation skills

Thorough knowledge of purchasing processes, inventory control, supplier management, and MRP/ERP applications

Ability to prioritize competing demands, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

Knowledge of electronic components, printed circuit boards, printed circuit assemblies, custom manufacturing, and MRO purchasing preferred

EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain Management, Operations, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience. Three to five years of purchasing experience in an MRP/ERP-driven manufacturing environment preferred. Experience purchasing electronic components, printed circuit boards, printed circuit assemblies, machined parts, custom products, MRO supplies, or subcontract manufacturing services is a plus.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
