Director of Life Enrichment

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

·        Lead large group, small group, and one-on-one activities throughout the day.

·        Make daily announcements to keep residents abreast of planned activities and schedule changes.

·        Provide instructions and supplies for appropriate staff to assist with activities.   

·        Actively promote resident participation in activities.

·        Conduct an interview with each new resident within 48 hours of move-in, noting activity preferences.

·        Conduct or supervise resident exercise program. 

·        Arrange and/or participate in special groups and activities such as coffee, games, music, news, pet visitation, religious services, story hour, voter registration, and other voting assistance.

·        Arrange entertainment programs in the community at least twice per month.

·        Arrange for resident parties and holiday celebrations.

·        Arrange and/or participate in outings such as special meals, shopping, and other attractions.

·        Drive community van to accompany and/or transport residents to off-site activities.

·        Take pictures of all community events and parties and share with Marketing.

·        Attend monthly resident council meetings when invited and take notes.

·        Decorate common areas of community using seasonal themes.

·        Welcome new residents and acknowledge birthdays, anniversaries, special accomplishments, and bereavement, following community custom.

·        Create a bulletin board with monthly activities, birthdays, and resident spotlight.

·        Provide residents with current information on areas of health, fitness, safety, and community activities.

·        Develop a volunteer program with at least five (5) volunteers from the community.  Train volunteers and coordinate volunteer activities. 

·        Serve as a liaison with outside groups desiring to sponsor programs.

·        Prepare activities calendar and present to Executive Director for approval by monthly deadline.

·        Maintain records of activities, as required.

·        Oversee monthly budget, ensuring all expenditures are accounted for and receipts are properly recorded.

·        Order activity supplies.  Keep storage area clean, neat, and organized.

·        Notify Executive Director immediately of noticeable differences in resident behavior.

·        May be requested to attend resident service plan conferences or provide the Executive Director with a written summary of how the resident is doing socially and in his/her activities.

·        May conduct community tours in the absence of the Marketing and Sales Director and Executive Director. 

·        Attend mandatory meetings as scheduled by Executive Director.

·        Maintain confidentiality of resident, community, employee, and company information.

·        Maintain working knowledge of fire and disaster plans and responsibilities under emergency conditions.

·        Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Where applicable, this position directly supervises the Life Enrichment department at the assigned community.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.    The Executive Director must be consulted before disciplinary action is taken.  Whether or not the assigned community has direct reports, the Director of Life Enrichment may provide instruction to those in other community roles as needed to successfully facilitate resident activities.

Work Environment

This position is most frequently situated inside of a climate-controlled assisted living community, with a low to moderate noise level.  Life Enrichment staff accompany residents on outings and may be required to drive. In certain circumstances, a staff member may be exposed to communicable diseases and infections, other biological hazards, and various drugs and chemicals.  Due to these potential hazardous exposures, you may be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in addition to universal precautions. PPE could include, but is not limited to, gloves, gowns, masks, respirators, and goggles.

Travel

This position requires local travel using the community van, to accompany and/or transport residents.
