Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, and physiological evaluations to determine care needs.
- Administer medications via injection, IV infusion, and other routes while adhering to aseptic technique and safety protocols.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks to document medical records accurately and efficiently.
- Manage complex cases involving trauma medicine, ICU or Level I/II trauma center protocols, emergency medicine procedures, or critical care transport.
- Conduct specialized procedures including suturing, catheterization (urinary and vascular), tube feeding management, and ostomy care.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop discharge plans, coordinate long-term care or hospice & palliative medicine services, and ensure seamless patient transitions.
- Lead patient education on health coaching topics such as medication administration, nutrition, infection control practices, and chronic disease management.
- Support infection control initiatives by maintaining sterile processing standards and adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Assist with diagnostic evaluations including laboratory specimen collection/processing, sonography support, or medical imaging as needed.
- Provide compassionate care for diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics with dementia or Alzheimer’s care needs, individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral health challenges.
Skills
- Extensive experience with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth or similar platforms for efficient documentation.
- Proficiency in advanced nursing procedures such as IV insertion, phlebotomy, venipuncture, airway management and ventilator support.
- Strong knowledge of physiology and anatomy to perform accurate patient assessments and interpret diagnostic results like ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding.
- Critical care experience in ICU or Level I/II trauma centers; familiarity with trauma medicine and acute pain management protocols.
- Skilled in working within various healthcare environments including hospital medicine units, outpatient clinics, urgent care centers or assisted living facilities.
- Ability to perform specialized procedures such as gastrostomy tube feeding management or spinal tap with precision and aseptic technique.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or complex health conditions such as infectious disease care or post-acute care settings.
- Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation law related to occupational health cases; experience in case management for diverse patient populations.
