Summary

Dispense prescribed medications and other pharmaceuticals for patient care. The staff pharmacist supervises pharmacy technicians and all other pharmacy staff in preparing and dispensing pharmaceuticals in accordance with state and federal laws and company policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review prescriptions issued by physician or other authorized prescriber to assure accuracy, appropriateness, and ingredients needed.
  • Use pharmacy computer system to enter patient orders, maintain drug refills, etc.
  • Dispense prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care. May include infrequent compounding.
  • Assist in directing pharmacy workers engaged in packaging, labeling and shipping pharmaceuticals.
  • Determine prescription appropriateness for dosage, drug choice, administration, allergies and possible reactions/interactions.
  • Answer questions and provide information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals.
  • In the absence of the pharmacy manager, the staff pharmacist shall address customer complaints and work quickly to resolve the problem to customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain established procedures concerning quality assurance, cost-containment, security of controlled substances, and disposal of drugs and hazardous waste.
  • This position has access to PHI and must comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Comply with company Corporate Compliance Program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

In addition to the pharmacy manager, the staff pharmacist will support in supervising pharmacy technicians and all other pharmacy staff in preparing and dispensing pharmaceuticals in accordance with state and federal laws and company policies. At times, when the pharmacy manager is unavailable, other supervisory duties temporarily fall to the senior staff pharmacist on duty, then to successive pharmacists as predetermined by the pharmacy manager.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to operate related office equipment, such as computers, 10-key calculator, and copier.

  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to create a compassionate and respectful environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a rotating shift as to learn every facet of the pharmacy operation. Will be expected to work alongside each member of the staff when necessary.
  • Excellent knowledge of chemistry and specific drug interactions.
  • Strong knowledge of medical and biological terminology.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities.
  • Uses good judgement and independent decision-making.
  • Ability to work 100% on-site, with no remote options available.
  • May have to work overtime with little or no notice as needed.

Required Physical Abilities:

  • Standing: Ability to stand for 8 or more hours a day, often for the majority of the workday.
  • Sitting for Extended Periods: Ability to sit at a desk for long durations while working on a computer.
  • Manual Dexterity: Proficiency in using hands and fingers to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls, such as typing on a keyboard.
  • Visual Acuity: Good vision to read and interpret data on computer screens and documents.
  • Communication: Ability to speak clearly and listen attentively during phone calls or meetings.
  • Occasional Lifting: Capability to lift and carry objects, typically up to 50 pounds.
  • Mobility: Ability to move around the pharmacy to access files, reach drugs on/off shelves, office equipment, or attend meetings. Ability to bend and stoop.
  • Posture: Maintaining proper posture to avoid strain or injury.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited college of Pharmacy with a BS/PharmD in Pharmacy.
  • Current Pharmacist license issued by the state Board of Pharmacy.
  • CE Units must also be maintained according to the Board of Pharmacy guidelines.
  • Valid and Current Driver's License.
  • Positive driving record that will enable the team member to be insurable under the agency vehicle insurance policy, if applicable.
  • This position must pass a post-offer background and drug test.
