Marketing, Communications & Advancement Manager

Senior Community Services
Hopkins, MN Full Time
POSTED ON 9/5/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 1/2/2027

Overview

Senior Community Services (SCS) is a nonprofit organization with a mission to empower people as they age. We believe that authentic engagement is fundamental to earning the trust and loyalty of our employees, volunteers, partners, clients, and donors.

This role combines SCS's marketing, communications, and assisting advancement (fundraising) functions into a single position. It is a hands-on, generalist position built for someone ready to build a broader marketing-and-fundraising skill set across both disciplines, not a narrow specialist role. You will partner closely with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team to lead all external communications, including social media, messaging, publications, annual reports, newsletters, and program materials. The role also supports campaigns and organizational events while ensuring consistent brand awareness and compliance across all public-facing communications.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Organizational Planning
  • Serve on the Strategic Leadership Team and contribute to organization-wide strategic planning
  • Manage a combined marketing and development budget, with CEO guidance and approval on major spending
  • Partner with program directors and staff to plan and execute campaigns, events, and organizational initiatives
  • Participate in relevant staff and board committee meetings, including the Strategic Planning Committee and co-lead the Reimagine Aging Conference Committee
  • Lead the planning, coordination and execution of the SCS Reimagine Aging Conference, including its fundraising and sponsorship components

Marketing & Communications

  • Collaborate with the CEO to build and execute an annual marketing and outreach plan with clear priorities, timelines, and success metrics
  • Develop marketing themes and campaigns; select media and produce marketing communications including print, digital, photo social, and video content
  • Maintain consistent messaging and branding across all SCS channels, including senior centers, and organizational websites, and social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)
  • Coordinate with SCS's contracted vendors including the Google Ad Grant partner and printers to keep projects on schedule and on brand
  • Serve as a point of contact for local media inquiries

Development & Fundraising

  • Plan and assist the Development Coordinator’s execution of the fundraising appeals e.g. (annual and year-end, Give to the Max Day, and mid-year campaigns) in partnership with the CEO
  • Collaborate with and assist the Development Coordinator with donor communications and stewardship touchpoints, including acknowledgment letters, impact updates, and donor recognition materials
  • Support grant applications and reports with marketing collateral, impact data, and organizational messaging
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Development Coordinator on logistics, invitations, and donor-facing communications for fundraising and donor cultivation events

Content Creation & Distribution

  • Create, co-design and distribute marketing and fundraising materials, including paid media, social media, op-eds, newsletters, and email marketing
  • Update and maintain content on the SCS website and affiliated senior center webpages

Other duties as assigned.

GROWTH PATH

We are growing! We are proud to be on the forefront of guiding older adults on their aging journey. As SCS's marketing and development infrastructure matures, this role has room to grow potentially adding direct support staff or interns, deeper vendor management responsibility, and more direct board engagement. We're looking for someone who wants to help build that infrastructure, not someone who expects it to be in place on day one.

SUCCESS MEASURES / KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)

Marketing & Communications Metrics

  • Website traffic and engagement (sessions, time on page) tracked quarterly
  • Social media follower growth and engagement rates across e.g. Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn
  • Email marketing performance: open rate and click-through rate against sector benchmarks
  • Earned media placements and press mentions per quarter

Development & Fundraising Metrics (collaboration with Development Coordinator)

· Track overall fundraising performance against annual goals, including total philanthropic revenue raised and donor event revenue.

· Measure donor engagement and growth through year-over-year donor retention, new donor acquisition, appeal response rates, and average gift size.

· Monitor fundraising support and reporting effectiveness by tracking grant application support, donor-facing event attendance, and providing quarterly dashboard updates to leadership and the Board.

Qualifications

  • Passion for the mission of Senior Community Services and for working with older adults and their families
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, nonprofit management, or a related field, and/or equivalent experience
  • 2–4 years of experience in marketing/communications, fundraising/development, or a role that combined elements of both, ideally at a small nonprofit
  • Comfortable wearing multiple hats and shifting between strategic and hands-on tasks in a small-team environment
  • Strong writer with solid content-development skills across formats (e.g. social, email, print, web)
  • Working knowledge of or willingness to learn a donor database/CRM (DonorPerfect)
  • Working knowledge of SEO, Constant Contact, Canva, and WordPress or similar tools, with transferable knowledge
  • Comfortable coordinating with outside vendors or contractors on a project basis (formal vendor management experience not required)

Join us as a pivotal part of our organization’s growth journey! Bring your innovative ideas, strategic mindset, and passion for impactful communication to help us reach new heights through energetic leadership in marketing and advancement initiatives.
