We are seeking a highly experienced Nursing Home Nurse Consultant to join our team on a flexible, part-time basis. This role is ideal for a seasoned long-term care professional who excels in regulatory compliance, mock surveys, operational assessments, and reimbursement optimization. The consultant will support multiple facilities and provide expert guidance as needs arise.
This is a high-level consulting position requiring deep knowledge of CMS regulations, survey processes, operations, and RAI/MDS reimbursement systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance & Clinical Guidance
- Provide expert interpretation and guidance on federal and state long-term care regulations.
- Conduct regulatory audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews.
- Develop practical, sustainable corrective action strategies for facilities.
Mock Surveys & Survey Preparedness
- Perform comprehensive mock surveys aligned with F-Tags and CMS protocols.
- Identify compliance risks and coach facility leadership on readiness strategies.
- Support facilities during survey preparation and follow-up as needed.
Operational & Clinical Performance Improvement
- Review and strengthen facility operations, staffing models, clinical systems, and workflow efficiency.
- Provide coaching to administrators, DONs, and clinical teams to improve quality outcomes.
- Assist with quality improvement initiatives and operational enhancements.
Reimbursement / RAI Expertise
- Offer expert support on MDS accuracy, RAI processes, and documentation.
- Evaluate PDPM coding and reimbursement compliance.
- Train interdisciplinary teams on reimbursement best practices and integrity.
Qualifications
- Active, unrestricted RN license.
- 5–7 years of senior leadership or consulting experience in long-term care.
- Extensive knowledge of CMS regulations, F-Tags, survey procedures, and compliance strategies.
- Advanced understanding of the RAI/MDS process and PDPM reimbursement.
- Strong communication, coaching, and analytical skills.
- Ability to travel periodically to facility locations.
