Since 2011, Senior Advocacy Network has helped older adults in our community remain safe, supported, and independent. Our work focuses on preventing homelessness, addressing and ending elder abuse, and connecting older adults with essential community resources. Position Description:
Newly licensed or experienced attorney able to assist as needed in various legal programs (tenant rights, eviction defense, elder abuse restraining orders, preparation of Estate planning documents, consumer issues); may report to a more senior attorney or Executive Director. Provides comprehensive legal services to eligible older adults in Stanislaus County in accordance with the ABA Standards for Providers of Civil Legal Services and the Code of Professional Responsibility.
Essential Responsibilities/Duties:
- Provide legal services (advice, negotiation, litigation & administrative advocacy) to older adults in accordance with the program priorities and case handling policies.
- Review/supervise work product of support staff relating to older adults programs.
- Develop leadership working with community, clients and other advocacy groups involving issues impacting older adults.
- Participate in training programs, case reviews, staff meetings and other firm activities.
- Prepare and provide community education regarding legal rights and scope of firm’s practice.
- Collaborate with members of the private bar as necessary.
- Maintain contemporaneous time records in case management system.
- Maintain great working relationships with all staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- Admitted to practice law in California
- Demonstrated commitment to working with older adults.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Able to meet deadlines and perform multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
- Good people skills and the ability to maintain positive relations with a diverse population.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bilingual (English & Spanish) Fluency preferred.
- Experience working with older adults and older adult communities.
- Experience in a non-profit legal services environment.
- Prior experience in legal services and additional relevant language ability.
