What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pipe layer position at Seney Inc.?
Seney Construction is seeking an experienced pipe layer to join our construction team. As a pipe layer, you will be the lead person responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining underground utilities for water, sewer, stormwater and electrical. You will work closely with other construction crew members to ensure that underground work is installed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications.
Responsibilities:
1. Pipe Installation: Lay, align, and position underground pipes according to plans, drawings, and specifications. This includes PVC, concrete, and metal pipes used for water, sewage, drainage, and electrical.
2. Trenching: Excavate trenches using hand tools, machinery, or equipment to prepare for pipe installation. Ensure trenches are dug to the proper depth and width, and in accordance with safety regulations and plans.
3. Pipe Joining: Connect pipes using appropriate fittings, couplings, and industry techniques. Ensure that connections are secure and leak-free to prevent future issues.
4. Grade and Leveling: Ability to use and set up pipe lasers to ensure that pipes are installed at the correct grade and alignment.
5. Backfilling: Fill trenches with gravel, dirt, or other materials once pipes are installed and inspected. Compact backfilled material to prevent settling or damage to the pipes.
6. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations to maintain a safe work environment. Identify potential hazards and take appropriate measures to mitigate risks.
7. Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on tools, equipment, and machinery used in pipe laying activities. Report any malfunction or damage for repair or replacement.
8. Team Collaboration: Work closely with other construction crew members, including excavators, laborers, and supervisors, to coordinate tasks and ensure project milestones are met.
Requirements:
1. Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a pipe layer in the construction industry.
2. Knowledge: Proficiency in reading plans, drawings, and specifications. Familiarity with various types of pipes, fittings, and installation techniques.
3. Skills: Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery used in pipe laying activities. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
4. Physical Stamina: Capable of lifting heavy objects, working in confined spaces, and performing strenuous activities for extended periods.
5. Certifications: Possession of relevant certifications such as OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety, or any other industry-specific training is preferred. 2A/1C license.
6. Team Player: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions from supervisors.
7. Flexibility: Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and environments. Availability to work overtime as needed to meet project deadlines.
