What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Dog Warden position at Seneca County?
The Deputy Dog Warden is responsible for dog control activities in Seneca County. This individual will also be responsible for assisting with the maintenance of records and reports concerning the operations of the Seneca County Dog Wardens Office. The Deputy Dog Warden will receive supervision from the Chief Dog Warden.
Essential Functions to be Performed:
· Ensure the kennel area is clean and orderly on a daily basis.
· Care for dogs while in kennel.
· Seize and impound dogs in a humane manner.
· Sell dogs to the public as appropriate.
· Issue court citations and/or warnings for violations of the Ohio Revised Code.
· Maintain Daily logs of impounded dogs.
· Ensure vehicles, office areas and restrooms are clean and orderly daily.
· Patrol Seneca County looking for stray dogs during various times.
· Answer the telephone and greet individuals that enter the facility.
· Euthanize dogs and transport for disposal.
· Distribute dog license.
· Conduct dog license checks by telephone/in person.
· Clears walkway and driveway.
· Laundry duties
· Maintains lawns.
· Perform minor repairs and general maintenance to ensure equipment is in good working order.
· May serve court issued bench warrants and incarcerate subjects as desired.
· Testify in Court when necessary.
· Assist court with violations of laws and ordinances relating to dogs.
· Maintain inventory.
· Serve on emergency calls after hours including weekends, and holidays. (Respond within allotted time>)
· Assist with pay in, payroll and license pay ins.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Education is equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
· Valid Ohio drivers license
· Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
· Ability to work with minimal supervision.
· Ability to perform heavy physical labor in all weather conditions and dangerous situations.
· Ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisors, the general public and coworkers.
· Ability to use tact and courtesy when dealing with the public.
· Knowledge of and ability to follow safety practices and procedures.
· Knowledge of dog care, dangerous dog control and capturing stray dogs.
· Ability to use firearms.
· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
· Ability to use various office equipment.
· Ability to calculate fractions, decimals, and percentages.
· Ability to organize and set priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Good public relations skills.
· Prior experience working with dogs.
· Seneca County resident preferred.
Physical Requirements:
· Bend, stoop, kneel jump and crawl.
· Lift/carry a minimum of 100 pounds.
· Reaching with bilateral upper extremities into/up to/down to various heights.
· Push/Pull with seventy-five (75) pounds of initial force.
· Exposure to outdoor temperature extremes.
· Walking/running on uneven surfaces.
· Climb stairs and onto a step ladder with two (2) or more steps.
