Position Overview:
The Director of Construction at Sendero Energy Services leads and coordinates construction activities across a variety of renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, carbon capture, and biodiesel facilities. This role ensures accurate documentation is submitted to EPC clients and supports senior leadership with reliable estimates on production, timelines, and costs. With a strong grasp of project management systems and the ability to handle diverse client portfolios, the Director plays a key role in driving successful outcomes in renewable energy construction.
Sendero Energy Services is located in Houston, Texas, however, assignments require travel to various locations in Texas, Arizona, or New Mexico as well as any new sites as they become a part of our projects. This successful candidate must be willing to travel and work from remote areas where our projects are located.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preconstruction Leadership
- Develop and implement project estimating strategies.
- Lead the operations team in reviewing estimated quantities and scope of work.
- Assess estimate clarifications and assumptions for accuracy and validity.
- Review project documents to identify and address scope gaps or overlaps.
- Present project estimates to internal and external clients.
- Make final recommendations regarding fees, contingency, and escalation.
- Validate potential value engineering items, alternatives, and options for project optimization.
- Lead risk review processes with internal and external clients.
- Review and understand project contract terms and conditions to address risk issues proactively.
- Estimating & Cost Management
- Provide leadership to operations teams (both office and field) in all project construction activities.
- Review and approve project construction schedules for feasibility and accuracy.
- Identify and implement opportunities to optimize project budgets, fees, and margins.
- Ensure financial health of projects by meeting or optimizing construction budgets.
- Make final recommendations regarding project financials, including buyout, fees, and contingency.
- Prepare and present monthly project risk assessments to Sendero senior leadership.
- Ensure all necessary bonds and insurance requirements are met and within budget.
Bid Strategy & Proposal Development
- Develop and provide man-hour work schedules to EPC clients.
- Develop and provide monthly invoices to EPC clients with required supporting documentation.
- Oversee subcontractor selection and the buy-out process.
- Review and approve specialty and heavy equipment pricing and delivery schedules.
- Verify subcontractor purchase orders and insurance compliance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Manage operations crew workload to ensure the timely completion of deliverables.
- Train and mentor both office and field staff.
- Foster a team-oriented work environment.
- Be adaptable and responsive to additional duties as assigned by Senior Leadership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
- Minimum of 8 years of direct project estimating experience for renewable energy infrastructure projects.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively, think creatively and analytically, and make sound decisions quickly.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, HeavyBid, PlanSwift, and/or OST is preferred.
- OSHA 10-hour safety certification required.
