Project Manager – Hyperscale Data Center Construction

Reports To: Project Executive / Operations Director

Position Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

The Project Manager (PM) is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control, and completion of hyperscale data center construction projects. This role ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with quality standards, contract requirements, and client expectations.

The PM serves as the primary liaison between ownership (often large-scale technology clients such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Google, or Meta Platforms), design teams, trade partners, commissioning agents, and internal operations teams.

Key Responsibilities1. Project Planning & Execution
  • Lead preconstruction and construction efforts from mobilization through turnover.
  • Develop and manage detailed project schedules (including critical path and long-lead equipment tracking).
  • Oversee procurement of major electrical and mechanical equipment (switchgear, transformers, generators, chillers, CRAH units, UPS systems).
  • Coordinate design reviews to ensure constructability and alignment with hyperscale standards.
  • Manage phasing strategies for fast-track and multi-building campus environments.
2. Financial Management
  • Develop and manage project budgets, cost forecasts, and cash flow projections.
  • Administer subcontracts and purchase orders.
  • Lead change management processes and negotiate change orders.
  • Monitor contingency usage and maintain financial reporting accuracy.
3. Contract Administration
  • Interpret and enforce contract documents, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with client-specific data center standards and performance criteria.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, and document control processes.
  • Oversee claims mitigation and dispute resolution.
4. Schedule & Logistics Management
  • Drive milestone achievement including energization, equipment setting, and commissioning readiness.
  • Manage site logistics for large-scale campuses with multiple concurrent scopes.
  • Coordinate with utility providers for power delivery and infrastructure tie-ins.
5. Quality & Commissioning
  • Ensure adherence to QA/QC programs specific to mission-critical environments.
  • Support integrated systems testing (IST) and Level 1–5 commissioning processes.
  • Oversee turnover documentation including as-builts, O&M manuals, and warranty closeout.
  • Ensure redundancy, resiliency, and uptime objectives are achieved.
6. Safety Leadership
  • Champion a safety-first culture in alignment with company and site-specific safety plans.
  • Monitor subcontractor safety performance and enforce compliance.
  • Participate in regular safety audits and incident investigations.
7. Team Leadership
  • Lead and mentor Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, and field staff.
  • Foster collaboration between field operations and office management.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and professional development planning.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7–15 years of commercial construction experience.
  • 3 years of experience managing data center or mission-critical projects.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems in Tier III / Tier IV facilities.
  • Proficiency in project management software (Procore, Primavera P6, Bluebeam, MS Project).
  • Experience managing projects valued at $100M .
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience delivering hyperscale campuses (100MW ).
  • Knowledge of redundancy topologies (N, N 1, 2N, 2N 1).
  • Familiarity with commissioning standards and mission-critical turnover processes.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • LEED accreditation (preferred but not required).

Salary : $150,000 - $190,000
