DESCRIPTION
The Academic Success Coach - TRIO-SSS SmartPath is a part-time, peer-level role within the TRIO SSS SmartPath program, providing mentorship and academic support to participants. The position helps students build study skills, time management, and engagement strategies, connects them to campus resources, and supports program staff with events and activities. This role is supportive and program-specific, without independent program leadership or multi-disciplinary academic responsibilities.
Essential Functions
This position is eligible for Veteran’s Preference.
Pay Benefits And Work Schedule
$14.00 hourly up to 26 hours per week
Conditions of Employment
Finalists and individuals recommended for employment at Seminole State College must reside in the State of Floridaat the time of hire and may be subject to background investigations and fingerprinting in compliance with Florida Statute 1001.64; and Seminole State College Policy 1.020; 2.020. Criminal background checks and fingerprinting will be conducted for all new employees, and for rehired employees who have had a break in service for one year or more. The Office of Human Resources will determine which background checks shall be conducted for each position, based upon its review of job descriptions and the responsibilities of the position. These include, but are not limited to, positions that have access to money, master keys, security-sensitive areas and confidential information; positions that have the capability to create, delete, and alter records; and positions that are responsible for the care and instruction of children. The College will conduct various types of background checks which may include, but are not limited to: criminal background, credit check, driver's license check, previous employment and references.

Essential Functions
- Serves as a peer mentor, encouraging SmartPath participants to stay engaged and focused on their academic goals.
- Provides individual or small group tutoring that reinforces study skills, time management, and course completion strategies.
- Facilitates or supports study groups and academic success activities in coordination with program staff.
- Connects students with campus academic resources, such as tutoring, workshops, and support services.
- Encourages consistent participation in program events, workshops, and student engagement activities.
- Monitors participant engagement and alerts program staff if additional academic support is needed.
- Supports program events, outreach initiatives, and student engagement efforts.
- Demonstrates positive academic behaviors, professionalism, and serves as a role model for participants.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diplom a.
- Enrolled as a college or university student with at least sophomore-level standing.
- Background similar to the SmartPath student population (e.g., first-generation or income-eligible).
- Experience in peer mentoring, tutoring, or student leadership, with an interest in student success, leadership development, or higher education careers.
- Demonstrated academic success and ability to model effective study habits.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and program staff.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to treat confidential information with sensitivity.
- Excellent Microsoft Office Suite skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to become proficient with videoconferencing applications, including Teams/Zoom.
- Ability to interact effectively with students, faculty and staff.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to clearly explain concepts and ideas in a variety of ways to improve student learning.
- Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.
- Committed to working in a multi-cultural environment.
- Works inside an office or meeting spaces.
- May work occasional evenings or weekends based on program activities and student schedules.
- May travel to other campus locations to support students and program activities.
