MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

The Seminole County Tax Collector is seeking a Customer Service Representative (CSR)! This position is responsible for clerical duties involved in the preparation, processing and fee collection efforts for vehicle registration and titling, vessel registration and titling, disabled persons parking placards, sales tax, property tax, tangible personal property tax, local business tax renewals, issuance of Florida driver licenses and hunting and fishing licenses. The selected candidate may also be responsible for processing Concealed Weapons Permits and/or birth certificates. Work requires review of documents, data entry and money collection within established balancing procedures and is performed under the general direction of appropriate staff. Excellent customer service and attention to detail skills are essential to be successful in this position.

PAID TRAINING: Selected candidates will go through a comprehensive paid training program. After successful completion of the training program employee will be assigned to one of our office locations based on operational needs.

OFFICE ASSIGNMENT: Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) are expected to be able to work at any of our six (6) branches throughout Seminole County based on office needs.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES:

  • Receives payments for new and renewal tags and titles for vehicles and vessels.
  • Reviews proof of ownership and insurance documents, issues proper license plate, FL numbers or decals and collects the requisite fees.
  • Assists the public in completion of forms for application for Florida title on vehicles/vessels previously titled outside of the state.
  • Physically verifies vehicle identification numbers, confirms proof of insurance and keys in the appropriate codes and tag designations.
  • Processes initial and renewal applications for issuance of temporary and permanent disabled persons parking placards.
  • Operates a computer to issue new and renewal Florida driver licenses or identification cards to customers.
  • Responsible for verification of identity, basic visual competency and residency status.
  • Responsible for the collection of monies, proper camera operation and specific data entry as required by the State of Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
  • Receives payment for tangible and non-tangible property taxes.
  • May be responsible for processing concealed weapons permit and birth certificate applications.
  • Verifies documentation and processes applications for Business Tax Receipts.
  • Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
  • Responds to emergency situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the Tax Collector's duties and responsibilities as set forth in the Florida Constitution and Florida Statutes.
  • Knowledge of the Tax Collector's Office policies, procedures and practices.
  • Able to access, input, retrieve and safeguard confidential data using various proprietary computer programs and applications.
  • Able to act with good judgment and flexibility as well as act decisively to analyze and solve problems.
  • Able to prioritize and organize.
  • Able to interact with customers and co-workers in a courteous and effective manner.
  • Able to type 40 correct words per minute.
  • Able to correctly make mathematical computations using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Able to ride as a passenger in a car or light truck operated through a series of specified maneuvers while evaluating and rating the driver's skill to drive safely and in accordance to Florida's Traffic Laws, as well as
  • Able to drive cars, light trucks under 8000 pounds, and Tax Collector vehicles in a safe and legal manner.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing in the English language.
  • Able to work under stressful conditions.
  • Able to interact effectively with others.
  • Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:

Physical Demands: Light work. Extended standing, some walking, lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds. Able to reach, see, talk; finger dexterity for data entry. Ability to look at a computer screen for long periods.

Environmental Demands: Inside work and occasional outside work.

Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend technical documents, instructions, rules, guidelines and procedures; memos, letters, etc. Ability to write clearly and concisely relaying information, details and data. Ability to speak to layman relaying information and details. Ability to perform general mathematical functions.

Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED AND at least one (1) year of cashiering or front counter customer service experience.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.

Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus!

A pre-employment skills test may be required.
