General Description
Our Lady of Providence Seminary and the Diocese of Providence are seeking an organized, detail oriented, hands-on Maintenance Supervisor to perform routine maintenance tasks and services at the seminary and priest retirement home. This person will maintain and operate standard pieces of equipment, e.g., mowers, snow blowers, trimmers, power tools, ladders and lifts, etc., used to maintain the seminary and retirement home buildings and grounds.
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensure that the seminary/retirement home and related grounds are clean, with appropriate and adequate lighting, adequate heating or cooling, etc., and that the premises are secured, security gate, entrance cards, etc.
- Performs routine plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry and painting tasks according to accepted standards.
- Ensures that vital seminary/retirement home systems (boilers, HVAC systems, etc.) are in working order and maintained according to periodic maintenance schedules.
- Performs routine maintenance tasks and regularly checks/repairs around the seminary/retirement home such as changing light bulbs, electrical systems, sensors, switches, unclogging drains, repairing locks, doors, hinges and gates.
- Lawn mowing and trimming, raking and sweeping and snow removal using a shovel and powered equipment.
- Performs other manual tasks as required or directed.
- Coordinates, schedules and performs security functions for the seminary/retirement home complex, as necessary, including for the parking areas.
- Creates a written, planned and proactive maintenance and repair schedule for the seminary/retirement home complex.
- Coordinates with and reports for accountability to the Rector
- Assigns, coordinates and accountably supervises other outside maintenance contracts, under the Rector’s supervision.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be able to read and write in English (as appropriate)
- Must be capable of performing a variety of physical tasks and movements including lifting up to 50 lbs. on occasion and 25lbs or more routinely.
- Other physical tasks/movements include but are not limited to standing, pushing/pulling, walking, stooping, bending, climbing, crawling, kneeling and squatting.
- Must be able to use power tools and manual maintenance equipment
- Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors in all climate conditions.
- Must be capable of climbing ladders and scaffolding and working at heights up to 24 feet.
- Rotating on-call schedule, 24/7 for emergencies and special events.
- Must be very organized and detail oriented with the ability to perform multiple tasks.
Education, Training and/or Experience:
- A high school diploma or a GED certificate is desirable but not necessary
- Must possess a minimum of 5 years’ experience performing maintenance duties (as indicated above) in a church, commercial, or other organizational setting.
