POSITION: UTILITY SERVICE WORKER

PURPOSE: TO ESTABLISH AN ELIGIBLE REGISTER OR FILL PRESENT AND

FUTURE VACANCIES WITH THE WATERWORKS AND SEWER

BOARD OF THE CITY OF SELMA

STARTING SALARY: $24,856.00

MAXIMUM SALARY: $33,084.27

OPEN UNTIL FILLED

FRINGE BENEFITS INCLUDE MEDICAL INSURANCE, RETIREMENT, PAID

VACATION, HOLIDAYS AND SICK LEAVE.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Assists with the installation, maintenance, and repair of water lines and mains.
• Makes taps for new services.
• Locates leaks in water lines.
• Installs water meters, cut-off valves, and backflow devices.
• Repairs cuts necessitated by utility repairs.
• Assists with the location of water lines for other utility companies.
• Flushes fire hydrants and water lines; repairs and replaces fire hydrants.
• Flags traffic; places regulatory signs at work sites.
• Gathers materials necessary to perform duties.
• Assists with emergency repairs.
• Maintains assigned tools and vehicle.
• Mows grass and trims around sites.
• Heavy Equipment Operator.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the

State of Alabama for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
