Catering Cook - Special Project (Set Weekday Schedule)

Selma's Catering & Events
Lexington, KY Full Time
POSTED ON 8/8/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 12/5/2026

About Us

We're a well-established catering company in Lexington, KY, known for consistency, attention to detail, and food our clients can count on. This role is dedicated to one of our long-standing accounts — a university sorority house — so you'll work the same schedule week to week instead of chasing event bookings.

Position Summary

We're looking for a Catering Cook to staff our sorority house contract. This role has a real customer-facing component: you'll prep at our Selma's kitchen, deliver to the house, set up service, break down, and clean on site — then return to Selma's to do it again for the next meal. It's a fixed weekday schedule, no nights, no weekends, no last-minute event calls, and a great fit for a cook who wants steady hours and doesn't mind being the face of the meal for our client.

Schedule

  • Monday–Thursday, 10:00 AM–7:00 PM; Friday, 9:00 AM–1:00 PM (approx. 40 hrs/week) — lunch and dinner service only, no breakfast
  • Weekends off
  • Follows the university's academic calendar — reduced hours or time off during school breaks
  • During academic breaks, hours can be filled with standard catering/event work if the cook wants the extra hours, or taken as time off — cook's choice
  • One consistent home base (Selma's) with on-site delivery — no rotating between event venues

Key Responsibilities

  • Prep lunch and dinner at Selma's kitchen according to a standing menu and production schedule.
  • Deliver food to the sorority house on time and at proper temperature.
  • Set up service on site, then break down and clean the space after each meal.
  • Represent the company directly with the client — this is a customer-facing role, not just back-of-house prep.
  • Maintain consistency in flavor, presentation, and portion control across daily meal service.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety protocols, both in the kitchen and on site.
  • Track product rotation, labeling, and inventory to reduce waste.
  • Communicate directly with house staff/management to handle daily needs, dietary requests, and schedule changes.

Required Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of professional cooking experience (catering, banquet, or high-volume kitchen preferred).
  • Comfortable following production sheets, prep lists, and standing menus with accuracy.
  • Solid food safety knowledge; ServSafe certification preferred.
  • Comfortable being the client-facing presence on site — professional, courteous, reliable in front of the customer.
  • Dependable and punctual — this role depends on consistent daily coverage.
  • Availability Monday–Thursday 10:00 AM–7:00 PM and Friday 9:00 AM–1:00 PM, following the academic calendar.
  • Able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable with light driving/delivery between Selma's and the sorority house.
  • Basic knife skills test required during interview.

What We Offer

  • $17–$20/hour, based on experience.
  • A fixed, predictable Monday–Friday schedule — no nights or weekends.
  • One steady work relationship (Selma's one client site) instead of rotating event locations.
  • Flexibility during school breaks: pick up extra hours on our standard catering/event work, or take the time off.
  • Full-time hours with a respected local catering company.
