Journeyman Lineman / Apprenticeship Program Lead

Position Summary

The Journeyman Lineman / Apprenticeship Program Lead is responsible for training apprentices, supporting intern development, and helping build a structured lineworker training program. This role requires hands-on overhead electric linework experience and strong industry knowledge to teach safe, practical field skills in both classroom and hands-on settings.

This position is ideal for an experienced Journeyman Lineman, Line Foreman, Lead Lineman, or similar field leader who understands real overhead distribution work and wants to help develop the next generation of lineworkers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Train apprentices, interns, and newer field employees on overhead electric linework, safe work practices, tools, equipment, and jobsite expectations.

  • Lead hands-on field demonstrations, classroom instruction, skills assessments, and practical training sessions.

  • Help build and improve the company’s apprenticeship and intern training programs.

  • Create training materials, checklists, learning paths, field guides, and progression milestones.

  • Track apprentice and intern progress, training completion, skills development, and readiness.

  • Coach and mentor apprentices, interns, and developing field employees.

  • Support new-hire onboarding and field readiness training.

  • Standardize training expectations across crews, foremen, and company locations.

  • Partner with Operations and Safety to make sure training reflects real field conditions and company standards.

  • Support safety training, corrective coaching, and follow-up training after incidents, audits, or field observations.

  • Maintain training records, reports, documentation, and program updates using computer systems.

  • Assist with rollout of new procedures, equipment, training programs, and field expectations.

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on overhead electric utility linework experience.

  • Experience as a Journeyman Lineman, Line Foreman, Lead Lineman, or equivalent field leadership role.

  • Strong knowledge of overhead electric distribution construction, maintenance, tools, equipment, and safe work practices.

  • Experience with poles, wire, transformers, bucket trucks, grounding, PPE, fall protection, and line construction procedures.

  • Experience training, mentoring, coaching, or leading apprentices, interns, crews, or field employees.

  • Ability to teach in both classroom and hands-on field environments.

  • Strong communication, organization, documentation, and follow-through skills.

  • Comfortable using computers for email, training materials, spreadsheets, records, reporting, and program documentation.

  • Ability to travel to company locations, training sites, and project sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman Lineman certification.

  • Previous experience as a trainer, instructor, foreman, superintendent, safety trainer, or apprenticeship program lead.

  • Experience developing apprenticeship curriculum, intern programs, skills checklists, or competency-based training programs.

  • Experience evaluating employees through field observations, demonstrations, and practical skills assessments.

  • CPR, First Aid, OSHA, CDL, pole-top rescue, bucket rescue, or other utility-industry training certifications.
