Private Family Cook / Household Kitchen Manager

Overview

We are seeking a kind, dependable, and hardworking individual to join our household team as a Private Family Cook and Household Kitchen Manager. This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys cooking, organization, and being part of a warm, family-oriented environment.

While some kitchen cleaning and organization are part of the role, the primary focus is taking ownership of the kitchen, including meal planning, shopping, cooking, inventory management, and helping create enjoyable family meals and gatherings.

We are a close-knit family with children ranging in age from 18 to 27, so no two days are exactly alike. Family dinners remain an important tradition in our home, and we gather together most evenings around 6:00 PM. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of the kitchen and food-related operations while becoming a valued member of our household team.

This position is intended to replace a beloved employee who was with our family for nearly 50 years. We are looking for someone who is interested in building a long-term relationship with our family and takes pride in creating a welcoming, well-run kitchen.

Responsibilities

• Plan and prepare daily family dinners and occasional lunches or special meals
• Grocery shop and maintain household food inventory
• Meal prep and prepare food for family members with varying schedules
• Keep pantry, refrigerator, freezer, and storage areas organized and well-stocked
• Rotate food inventory and monitor freshness of ingredients
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of all kitchen areas
• Assist with menu planning and special family events
• Coordinate food needs for gatherings and occasional entertaining
• Serve family members and guests during larger events when needed
• Work collaboratively with other household staff to ensure smooth household operations

Schedule

We are open to finding the right schedule for the right person. This role can be structured as either a part-time hourly position or a more full-time role, depending on the candidate's experience, availability, and overall fit with our household. We already have a full-time household staff member who manages the general cleaning of the home, and there is flexibility to expand responsibilities and hours for the right individual.

Potential arrangements may include:

• Morning or afternoon hours focused on shopping, meal preparation, and kitchen management
• A more consistent schedule of approximately 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM
• Flexibility based on family needs and the successful candidate's availability

Qualifications

• Experience cooking for families or in a private household preferred
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to plan meals, manage inventory, and maintain an orderly kitchen
• Comfortable working independently and taking initiative
• Professional, trustworthy, and reliable
• Warm personality with a genuine enjoyment of family environments
• Ability to adapt to changing schedules and household needs

About Our Household

We have a separate staff member who manages the general cleaning of the home during the daytime. This role is focused primarily on taking complete ownership of the kitchen, including shopping, cooking, food inventory management, menu planning, kitchen organization, and support for family gatherings.

We value loyalty, kindness, and long-term relationships. Our household staff have always been treated as part of our extended family. In fact, the employee this position will replace became such an important part of our lives that she served as maid of honor at my wedding.
