Selfreliance Federal Credit Union is seeking a strategic Director of Human Resources or Vice President of Human Resources, based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications, to lead and manage the Credit Union’s human resources operations across a growing, multi-state organization. This leadership role is responsible for supporting organizational performance, culture, and regulatory compliance by developing and implementing an HR strategy aligned with the Credit Union’s mission and long-term goals.
The Director/VP of HR will oversee all core human resources functions, including payroll, benefits administration, talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, professional development and HR compliance. This leader will serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership while fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, and operational excellence across the organization.
This role is a key leadership position with a defined growth path to Chief People Officer (CPO), based on performance, organizational needs, and the continued evolution of the role.
Responsibilities:
- Human Capital Strategy & Leadership: Develop and carry out the Credit Union’s HR strategy to support overall business goals; work closely with executive leadership on staffing plans, succession planning, and organizational structure across our multi-state workforce.
- Payroll Administration: Oversee and process payroll to ensure accuracy, proper deductions, and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Benefits & Retirement Programs: Administer and oversee employee benefits programs, including health insurance and 401(k) plans; manage vendor relationships and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning: Lead full-cycle recruitment and hiring efforts; manage and execute the onboarding process; partner with branch and department leaders to support ongoing staffing needs and workforce planning.
- Performance Management & Employee Relations: Manage performance evaluation systems; address employee relations matters; support managers in coaching, documentation, and corrective action processes.
- Training & Professional Development: Oversee and manage the Credit Union’s training and professional development programs, including compliance training and tracking employee development activities.
- Compensation & Incentive Programs: Enhance and manage competitive reward/incentive programs aligned with organizational performance objectives and retention goals.
- Compliance & Policy Governance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and applicable payroll tax requirements across multiple jurisdictions; develop and maintain HR policies and procedures; oversee employee handbook updates and regulatory readiness.
- HR Systems: Oversee and maintain HR systems to ensure accurate employee records, payroll processing, and efficient HR operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required; advanced degree (MBA or HR-related) preferred.
- Professional Expertise: Significant experience in human resources leadership is required, with demonstrated experience managing payroll, benefits administration, compensation strategy, and employee relations. Experience within organizations of 100 employees operating across multiple states is preferred.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of employment law and regulatory compliance requirements across multiple states.
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to influence and partner effectively with executive leadership and managers across the organization.
- Fluency in English and basic conversational Ukrainian language skills are required.
Compensation Disclosure:
The actual compensation offered will be based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and overall qualifications. It is not typical for individuals to be hired at or near the top of the range. Compensation decisions are made based on the specific facts and circumstances of each case.
Placement at the higher end of the range would generally be reserved for candidates with significant senior-level HR leadership experience, including at least five years in a comparable role within an organization of 100 employees operating across multiple states.
