The Plumbing Foreman is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing field operations, supporting daily business management, and acting as a bridge between ownership and the plumbing crew. This individual will learn directly from the current owner and incoming buyer (Owner/GM) to assume increasing leadership responsibility across estimating, job bidding, layout, scheduling, and field supervision.
The Foreman will oversee field crews, perform quality checks, assist in project planning and material procurement, and occasionally perform hands-on plumbing work. The ideal candidate will be committed to obtaining their California Plumbing Contractor License (C-36) within three (3) months of hire, positioning themselves for long-term leadership and growth within the company.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Field Supervision
- Lead daily field operations, including scheduling, crew deployment, and quality assurance.
- Supervise, train, and coach plumbing technicians and apprentices.
- Conduct site visits to monitor work quality, safety compliance, and customer satisfaction.
- Respond promptly to on-site issues, change orders, or rework needs.
- Uphold company standards for professionalism, communication, and workmanship.
Project Management & Estimating
- Work directly with the current owner to learn job bidding, layout, and estimating processes.
- Support estimating and pricing for new construction, remodels, and service work.
- Review plans, blueprints, and specifications to prepare material and labor takeoffs.
- Track project progress, timelines, and profitability.
Customer & Supplier Relations
- Maintain professional communication with customers, contractors, and inspectors.
- Respond to phone calls, texts, and emails related to scheduling, job updates, and issues.
- Work with the Owner to source and negotiate materials and supplies.
- Maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure timely delivery and fair pricing.
Financial & Administrative Support
- Assist with job costing and cost tracking at the project level.
- Monitor field labor hours vs. estimates and communicate variances.
- Contribute to accounts receivable activities by verifying job completion and assisting in invoicing follow-up.
- Maintain accurate daily logs, field reports, and project documentation.
Hands-On Plumbing Work
- Perform plumbing tasks as needed to ensure schedule adherence or quality completion.
- Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of piping systems and fixtures per code.
- Demonstrate technical proficiency and mentor others in trade best practices.
Licensing & Development
- Actively pursue and obtain California Plumbing Contractor License (C-36) within 3 months.
- Participate in ongoing professional and leadership development activities.
- Support implementation of improved operational systems and workflows.
QualificationsRequired:
- Minimum 5–7 years of plumbing experience (commercial or residential new construction and remodel).
- Strong knowledge of plumbing codes, blueprints, and field layout practices.
- Valid California driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability and commitment to earn a C-36 Plumbing Contractor License within 3 months.
- Proficiency with smartphones/tablets and basic business software (Excel, QuickBooks, Google Workspace, etc.).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and leadership ability.
Preferred:
- Experience leading or supervising plumbing teams.
- Prior experience estimating or managing projects.
- Some small business finance experience.
- Experience in small business operations or construction management.
- Familiarity with job costing and financial tracking principles.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
