Restaurant Financial Analyst – Business Intelligence Focus

Position Summary
We are seeking a highly analytical and tech-savvy Financial Analyst with strong Business Intelligence (BI) expertise to support our growing restaurant organization. This role is responsible for turning financial and operational data into actionable insights that drive profitability, improve decision-making, and optimize performance across multiple restaurant locations.
The ideal candidate combines financial acumen with advanced data analysis, reporting automation, and dashboard development skills to support leadership in strategic planning, forecasting, and performance measurement.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
- Develop, manage, and analyze financial models for forecasting, budgeting, and scenario planning.
- Provide variance analysis and financial reporting on sales, COGS, labor, and controllable expenses by location and region.
- Partner with operations to identify key performance trends and opportunities for margin improvement.
- Prepare consolidated financial reports for executive leadership and ownership groups.
Business Intelligence & Data Visualization
- Design and maintain interactive dashboards and data visualizations in Power BI (or similar tools such as Tableau or Domo).
- Build automated reports that consolidate data from multiple sources (POS, labor management, accounting, and supply chain systems).
- Develop KPIs and performance scorecards for real-time operational visibility.
- Ensure data accuracy and integrity across all systems and reports.
Operational Insights & Decision Support
- Conduct deep-dive analyses on restaurant performance, pricing, and promotions to inform business strategies.
- Support unit-level leaders with actionable insights related to cost control, sales mix, and labor efficiency.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with accounting, IT, and operations to align data reporting processes.
Process Improvement & Systems Integration
- Partner with IT to integrate and streamline data flows between POS, inventory, payroll, and accounting systems.
- Identify and implement automation opportunities to reduce manual reporting and increase efficiency.
- Support new restaurant openings and acquisitions by aligning financial and reporting processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Data Analytics, or related field.
- 3–7 years of experience in financial analysis, FP&A, or BI—preferably in the restaurant, hospitality, or retail industry.
- Advanced proficiency in Power BI, Excel (pivot tables, Power Query, macros), and SQL.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, P&L analysis, and restaurant unit economics.
- Experience working with POS systems, ERP/accounting platforms (e.g., NetSuite, Restaurant365), and data warehouses.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear business insights.
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Experience with Restaurant365, Toast, or Aloha data integration.
- Familiarity with ETL tools and API data connections.
- Experience supporting franchise or multi-unit operations.
- CPA, CFA, or BI-related certification a plus.
