Maintenance Technician

Title:        Maintenance Technician

Reports To:        Facilities Manager 

Summary:    Performs preventative, remedial as well as regular maintenance and repair work.

Essential Functions:

1.    Performs preventive inspection of premises.

2.    Performs general maintenance and repair work including, but not limited to, plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, landscaping, cleaning and handy work.

3.    Assists in technical repairs and maintenance of machinery, tool and equipment.

4.    Cleans ventilating hoses of washing and drying machines, refrigerator and freezer compressors. Unclogs dishwasher drains.

5.    Adjusts and lubricates window hinges periodically.

6.    Prioritizes and helps schedule various types of maintenance such as preventive, remedial and emergency repairs.

7.    Keeps tools and machinery in good condition and in an organized manner.

8.    Assists in compiling and keeping written records of maintenance services, operating manuals, inventory, and related data on equipment and building fixtures.

9.    Performs duties that comply with all safety codes.

10.    Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1.    Minimum one year of experience in maintenance and repairs of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting and handy work.

2.    Must be willing to perform some heavy-duty job assignments.

3.    Ability to work with people of all socio-economic backgrounds, particularly the elderly population.

4.    Capable of exercising individual initiative. Must have strong self-motivation.

5.    Must pass a strength test for physical fitness for the job prior to employment and every 2 years thereafter. Able to lift up to 30 lbs from floor to waist level.

6.    Must be able to withstand physical activities such as pushing, pulling, stooping, standing, walking, etc.

7.    Must pass health screening for TB clearance, and have or obtain criminal record clearance.

8.    Must be able to travel via public transportation or personal/department vehicle for the performance of job duties. If driving, must have and maintain a valid CA driver license, satisfactory driving record, and auto insurance coverage as specified in Self-Help's policy.
