What are the responsibilities and job description for the Self Help Center - Support Advocate position at Self Help Center?
Victim Services
· Provide a supportive and welcoming presence for residents during evening hours.
· Assist clients with access to meals, pantry items, and basic necessities.
· Provide requested items from donations, including toiletries, bedding, and household supplies.
· Maintain appropriate professional boundaries while supporting clients in a trauma-informed manner.
· Read the log daily upon arriving to work.
· Report in the log daily before exiting, including a brief synopsis of client events.
· Communicate client needs, concerns, or incidents to supervisory staff.
· Assist with Front Desk duties as needed, including answering phones and directing calls.
· Learn and assist with basic intake procedures and documentation as assigned.
House Maintenance / Safe House Operations
· Prepare empty units (“flips”) for new residents, ensuring spaces are clean, organized, and move-in ready.
· Clean, sanitize, restock, and organize units between client stays.
· Stock units with linens, toiletries, and basic household essentials.
· Use provided documentation for checking chores and units.
· Organize and inventory toiletry storage areas, pantry, and donation room.
· Assist with grocery ordering, pickup, and organization.
· Sort and organize donated items for accessibility and efficiency.
· Complete assigned chores, including office and safe house units.
· Conduct daily unit checks and monitor client coming and going; report concerns.
· Maintain a comfortable living environment, including monitoring unit temperature.
· Assist with light housekeeping and organization of shared spaces.
· Secure the residence in the event of an emergency and monitor alarm systems.
· Report maintenance, safety concerns, and completed tasks to the Safe House Director or backup hotline staff.

Guidelines
- The guidelines for performing the work are Agency and State of Wyoming instruction sheets for the completion of Direct Services Reports, Group Attendance Sheets and other applicable forms for collecting the statistical information to comply with Agency policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Ability to effectively communicate in speech and writing in English.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to function in and have tolerance in high stress situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, volunteer advocates, the public, and community agencies.
- Awareness of ones’ values, motivations, and personal history, and the influence ones’ behaviors/emotions have on victims, co-workers and the public.
Agency requirements
- Commitment to the highest professional standards for the self and staff in accordance with the Self Help Center Code of Ethics and Agency policies.
- Completion of agency’s 40-hour advocacy training.
- Regular attendance at staff and advocate meetings.
- Attendance of Board of Directors meetings and/or Wyoming Coalition against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault meetings, at the request of the Executive Director and/or Safe House Manager.
- Attend community outreach events.
- Have on-call availability.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- The work is performed in an office setting which requires the ability to carry packages weighing at least 25 pounds. The employee may come in contact with emotional, irrational or violent people while performing the duties. The employee assumes all risks, loss, damages, or injury, including death, while employed at the Self Help Center
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required, Associate Degree preferred.
· Experience in a related field or with a similar agency is preferred.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 per hour
