Personal Support Professional (PSP) – Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and person‑centered Personal Support Professional (PSP) to support an adult with developmental disabilities in leading a meaningful, self‑directed life. The ideal candidate is energetic, perceptive, adaptable, and an active listener who can provide safe, respectful assistance both at home and during community outings. This role focuses on promoting independence, supporting personal preferences, and facilitating enjoyable participation in social, recreational, and volunteer activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide transportation to and from errands, appointments, and community activities such as bowling, museums, the library, musical events, and sports events.
  • Support participation in social, recreational, and volunteer activities in a safe and enjoyable manner.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including Saturday mornings as needed.
  • Assist with mobility as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of services provided, incidents, medication reminders, and progress toward goals.
  • Monitor the individual’s general well‑being and promptly report any injuries or changes in behavior.
  • Ensure the individual’s preferences are honored and provide opportunities for personal growth and independence.
  • Communicate effectively with family members and other members of the support team.
  • Follow all safety procedures, emergency protocols, and organizational policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency standards.

Job Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Must obtain the Direct Support Professional 1 Certificate within 6 months of hire.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must possess or obtain First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Ability to ensure medications are taken on time (reminders only) and that dietary restrictions are followed.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Must be vaccinated against influenza and COVID‑19.
  • Valid driver’s license with proof of registration, insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Must pass a background check and any required screenings.
  • Patience, compassion, dependability, and a commitment to person‑centered care.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.

Pay: $23.43 - $30.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
