Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly in accordance with infection control standards.
- Assist dentists during a variety of procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry by handing instruments and managing patient comfort.
- Take and develop dental X-rays using digital imaging technology such as 3D scanners and medical imaging tools while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Manage patient records accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring all medical documentation is complete and compliant with HIPAA standards.
- Perform chairside assisting tasks including taking vital signs, explaining procedures to patients, and maintaining aseptic technique throughout treatments.
- Support administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, answering phone calls as a dental receptionist, and managing medical coding for insurance claims.
- Educate patients on oral health practices and post-treatment care to promote ongoing dental wellness.
Qualifications
- Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment with knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control protocols, and dental assisting techniques.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft; experience with Epic or similar medical documentation platforms is a plus.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and data security.
- Ability to perform X-ray procedures safely while maintaining high standards of aseptic technique.
- Knowledge of pediatric dentistry practices and experience assisting with pediatric patients is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with team members including dental receptionists, hygienists, and dentists.
