What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Lathe Machinist position at Select Machining, LLC?
Job Summary
Select Machining is looking for an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist who can independently set up, program, operate, inspect, and troubleshoot CNC lathes. We primarily use Okuma lathes with OSP controls. CNC mill experience is a plus.
This is not an entry-level operator or button-pusher position. We need someone who understands the complete machining process and can take a job from blueprint to finished part with limited supervision.
We are a small, hands-on machine shop where everyone helps wherever needed. This may include sawing your own barstock, deburring your own parts, cleaning machines and work areas, or helping another employee keep a job moving. We are looking for someone with a team-first attitude who is willing to pitch in.
Candidates must also be willing to work additional hours or overtime when workload and customer deadlines require it.
Duties
- Operate CNC lathe machines, ensuring accurate and efficient production of metal parts according to technical specifications.
- Set up machines by installing tooling, fixtures, and calibrating equipment for each job.
- Write, review, or modify CNC G-code programs using CAD/CAM software to optimize machining processes.
- Interpret mechanical blueprints and technical drawings to determine machining requirements and tolerances.
- Perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and other measurement tools to verify part dimensions and quality.
- Conduct machine maintenance, troubleshooting, and adjustments to ensure optimal performance and safety standards are maintained.
- Inspect finished parts for defects or deviations from specifications through CNC quality inspection techniques and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
- Utilize manual machining skills such as grinding or drilling when necessary for secondary operations or fine-tuning parts.
- Maintain detailed records of production runs, inspection results, and machine setup procedures for quality control purposes.
- Collaborate with team members on tooling selection, process improvements, and problem-solving initiatives to enhance productivity.
