Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Part Time Veterinary Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support to veterinarians and veterinary technicians in delivering high-quality care to animals, working ~2-3 days per week. Your responsibilities will include assisting with examinations and surgery, performing basic medical procedures, and ensuring a clean and safe environment for both patients and staff. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for animal welfare and a desire to learn about veterinary practices.
Duties
- Assist veterinarian during examinations and procedures by restraining animals and providing necessary tools.
- Maintain accurate medical records and assist with the administration of medications as directed by the veterinarian.
- Perform routine laboratory tests, including blood draws and urinalysis.
- Assist and monitor patients during anesthetic procedures.
- Ensure cleanliness of the clinic by following aseptic techniques and maintaining a sanitary environment.
- Provide front desk support, including scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and greeting clients.
- Educate pet owners on proper animal husbandry practices and post-operative care.
- Monitor animal behavior and health status during their stay at the clinic.
- Assist in the management of veterinary critical care cases under supervision.
Qualifications
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Knowledge of animal physiology and veterinary terminology is preferred.
- Experience in animal husbandry or as a veterinary technician is a plus.
- Familiarity with aseptic techniques and basic veterinary procedures is desirable.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients and team members.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- A genuine love for animals and commitment to their care is essential.
- Previous experience in a veterinary clinic is required.
