What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reinsurance Senior Accountant I position at Selby Jennings?
- Support a growing reinsurance function by compiling, analyzing, and presenting financial information to senior leadership, management committees, and regulatory bodies.
- Own accounting activities related to new and existing reinsurance arrangements, ensuring accurate recording and reporting of complex transactions.
- Prepare, review, and maintain financial records and reporting for complex general ledger accounts, including development of automated or system‑based entries where appropriate.
- Partner cross‑functionally with actuarial, underwriting, finance, and leadership teams to onboard new reinsurance opportunities and align accounting treatment.
- Develop and analyze expense data to support bi‑annual forecasting, annual budgeting, and longer‑term financial planning initiatives.
- Build and maintain financial models, forecasts, and ad hoc reporting to support business and reinsurance strategy.
- Supervise, train, and develop accounting staff, including assigning work, reviewing outputs, and providing ongoing coaching and performance feedback.
- Participate in interim and year‑end audit processes, serving as a key contact for audit requests related to reinsurance and insurance accounting.
- Prepare and submit required regulatory and statutory filings accurately and on time.
- Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure consistency and compliance as the business evolves.
- Stay current on technical accounting and industry developments through ongoing training and professional development.
- Lead or support special projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned.
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
* At least 4 years of experience in accounting or financial analysis within insurance or financial services.
* Exposure to reinsurance accounting or a strong interest in developing deeper expertise in this area.
* Experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and working with complex general ledger accounts.
* Comfort partnering with cross functional teams and explaining accounting concepts to non accounting stakeholders.
* Interest in building, improving, and documenting accounting processes and controls.
* Experience supporting audits and regulatory or management reporting.
* Strong Excel skills and experience working with accounting or reporting systems.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast moving, evolving environment.
* Prior experience mentoring or reviewing the work of others is a plus, but not required.
Salary : $85,000 - $90,000
