Role Overview
A growing trading organization is seeking a Middle Office Analyst to support several North American energy‑focused trading teams. This position sits between commercial activity and the firm's control functions, handling daily reporting, trade validation, and exposure monitoring. The role involves ongoing collaboration with front‑office, risk, finance, and technology teams while contributing to process improvements across the middle‑office workflow.
- 4 years of experience within commodities or energy markets, ideally with exposure to North American Power & Gas.
- Experience navigating major energy exchanges such as CME, ICE, Nodal, or NGX.
- Familiarity with both exchange‑traded and physical energy products.
- Understanding of trade lifecycle and exchange clearing workflows.
- Strong Excel capabilities; knowledge of Python, SQL, or VBA is an advantage.
- Awareness of risk concepts (e.g., VaR, Greeks, drawdowns).
- Experience with tools such as Bloomberg, energy market data platforms, or ERP systems.
- Producing and reviewing daily performance and exposure reports for various Power & Gas trading books.
- Checking and reconciling trade activity, positions, and valuations across internal and external data sources.
- Coordinating with traders, grid operators, and clearing entities to resolve trade discrepancies.
- Maintaining system reference data (products, price curves, contract attributes, etc.).
- Verifying exchange and index curve data alongside third‑party price sources.
- Outlining the drivers of daily P&L changes and discussing major exposures and risk movements with stakeholders.
- Comparing internal system records against external counterparties to confirm accuracy.
- Assisting with pricing of derivatives and physical energy products.
- Serving as a point of contact for groups such as risk management, treasury/ALM, operations, IT, and business leadership.
- Supporting automation, control enhancements, and workflow improvements.
- Continuously reviewing existing procedures to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and strong risk management.
