We are seeking a motivated and energetic School Janitor / Maintenance professional to ensure our school environment remains clean, safe, and well-maintained. This vital role involves performing custodial duties, general repairs, and facilities upkeep to support a positive learning atmosphere for students and staff alike. General Repairs
- Fix leaks in sinks, toilets, or drinking fountains
- Clear clogged drains or toilets
- Perform touch-up painting on walls, handrails, or furniture
- Repair or assemble furniture and fixtures
- Perform minor carpentry work (e.g., installing shelves, trim repair)
HVAC & Utility Systems
- Check and replace air filters
- Monitor heating and cooling systems to ensure proper operation
- Report issues to HVAC contractors when outside the scope of the role
- Ensure thermostats are functioning and accessible
Electrical & Safety Systems
- Check and reset circuit breakers as needed
- Test emergency lighting and exit signs
- Ensure fire extinguishers are inspected and accessible
- Assist with monthly fire and safety inspections
- Report or repair minor electrical issues (e.g., outlets, power cords)
Restroom & Plumbing Maintenance
- Repair running toilets or faulty flush valves
- Unclog and clean urinals and drains
- Inspect for mold, leaks, or water damage
Grounds & Outdoor Maintenance
- Sweep parking lots, sidewalks, and walkways
- Pick up trash and debris around the property
- Open and close gates or athletic areas (e.g., tennis courts)
- Maintain outdoor lighting fixtures
Logistics & Supplies
- Receive and distribute deliveries
- Organize maintenance supplies and custodial storage areas
- Track and manage inventory of repair materials
- Replace filters, belts, and minor equipment parts
Preventive & Scheduled Maintenance
- Perform routine monthly and seasonal inspections (e.g., roof drains, gutters)
- Assist with Home rental property maintenance per request (off-site)
- Maintain records of maintenance activities (logs or systems such as Jira)
- Follow established preventive maintenance schedules for building systems (e.g., HVAC, alarms)

- Repair or assemble furniture and fixtures
- Perform minor carpentry work (e.g., installing shelves, trim repair)
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- 1–3 years of custodial, facilities, or maintenance experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of building systems, including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC
- Ability to safely use cleaning equipment, hand tools, and maintenance tools
- Working knowledge of cleaning chemicals and proper handling procedures (OSHA awareness preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment
- Ability to identify maintenance issues and take appropriate corrective action or escalate as needed
- Strong time management skills and ability to work independently
- Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent attendance
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and supervisors
- Flexibility to work varied schedules, including early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends
Pre-Employment & Hiring Requirements
- Successful completion of a criminal background check (CORI) in accordance with state regulations
- Completion of Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) fingerprint-based background check, as required for school personnel
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening, in accordance with company policy and applicable laws
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Valid driver’s license (if job duties require travel between sites or operation of company vehicles)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and lifting
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Pay: From $21.00 per hour
