Chief Financial Officer / Financial Controller
Family Office & Registered Investment Advisory (RIA)
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly strategic and operationally driven Chief Financial Officer / Financial Controller to oversee the financial infrastructure, reporting, cash management, and operational accounting functions of a growing family office and SEC-registered investment advisory firm. This individual will play a critical leadership role in financial stewardship, business scalability, regulatory oversight, and long-term strategic planning across multiple entities and investment structures.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with executive-level financial leadership experience in wealth management, family office operations, alternative investments, and multi-entity environments. CPA designation is strongly preferred.
This role requires discretion, precision, and the ability to operate within a high-net-worth, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Serve as the senior financial leader across the family office and affiliated entities.
- Develop and oversee financial strategy, forecasting, budgeting, and long-term planning.
- Provide executive leadership with financial analysis, profitability insights, and strategic recommendations.
- Build scalable financial systems, controls, and reporting structures to support organizational growth.
- Assist ownership and executive leadership in evaluating investment opportunities, acquisitions, entity structuring, and capital allocation decisions.
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Oversee all accounting operations, including:
- General ledger management
- Accounts payable and receivable
- Payroll oversight
- Treasury and cash management
- Intercompany accounting
- Multi-entity consolidations
- Ensure accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Maintain and improve internal financial controls, policies, and procedures.
- Supervise outside accounting firms, auditors, tax professionals, and financial vendors where applicable.
- Manage financial reporting for operating businesses, investment entities, and affiliated structures.
Family Office & Investment Oversight
- Assist in oversight of:
- Private equity investments
- Alternative investments
- Real estate holdings
- Special purpose entities (SPEs)
- Family office structures
- Coordinate capital calls, distributions, liquidity planning, and investment reporting.
- Monitor investment cash flows and performance reporting.
- Support high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth planning initiatives alongside legal and tax advisors.
Regulatory & Compliance Coordination
- Work closely with Compliance leadership and outside counsel regarding:
- SEC and RIA financial requirements
- Regulatory reporting
- Financial audits
- Custodial and operational oversight
- Maintain compliance with all applicable accounting standards, tax requirements, and financial regulations.
- Assist with preparation and review of ADV-related financial disclosures where applicable.
Tax & Entity Structuring Coordination
- Coordinate with external CPAs and tax attorneys regarding:
- Multi-state tax planning
- Partnership accounting
- Entity structuring
- Trust and estate coordination
- Tax-efficient financial strategies
- Assist with financial reporting and planning related to sophisticated UHNW structures and private investments.
Leadership & Operational Management
- Build and lead the internal finance and accounting function.
- Establish operational efficiencies and financial workflows across departments.
- Participate in executive leadership meetings and strategic planning discussions.
- Provide mentorship and oversight to accounting and operations personnel.
- Maintain strict confidentiality surrounding client, investment, and ownership information.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 7–15 years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience
- Experience within one or more of the following:
- Registered Investment Advisory (RIA) firms
- Family offices
- Wealth management firms
- Private equity or alternative investment environments
- Strong understanding of:
- Multi-entity accounting
- Financial reporting
- Cash flow management
- Budgeting and forecasting
- Internal controls
- Advanced proficiency in financial systems, reporting software, and Microsoft Excel
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- High level of discretion and professionalism
Preferred
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Experience with SEC-regulated environments
- Experience with UHNW/family office financial operations
- Knowledge of private investments, fund structures, and partnership accounting
- Familiarity with investment reporting platforms and custodial systems
- Experience managing complex ownership/entity structures
