Job Description:

The Speech/Language Pathologist assists in developing speech and language skills to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the Speech/Language Pathologist must work closely with the staff and administration of the interlocal and school districts.

 

Responsible to: Director, Assistant Director, and Principal According to negotiated agreement

 

Salary: According to negotiated agreement.

 

Job Location: Specific caseload location to be determined upon hiring but could be in any of our 13 school districts.

 

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Master’s degree from an accredited college/university.
  3. Current Kansas Speech Pathologist License on file in the Central Office.
  4. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.
  5. Desire to continue career improvement.
  6. Demonstrate or develop basic computer literacy skills. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of interlocal prescribed computer-based reporting systems.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist in developing speech and language skills to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students.
  2. Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students.
  3. Ensure that all activities conform to interlocal guidelines.
  4. Communicate effectively with all members of the interlocal and community.
  5. Work effectively with community organizations.
  6. Appropriately operate all equipment.
  7. Respond to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  8. Support the value of an education.
  9. Support the mission and goals of the interlocal.
  10. Complete required reports in a timely manner as required by law.

 

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

  1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  2. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.
  3. Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
  4. Requires extensive travel and the ability to drive.
  5. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.

 

General Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the early recognition and prevention of educational problems.
  2. Monitor student progress and make informed, timely educational decisions.
  3. Conduct speech, language, and hearing screenings and diagnostic evaluations to

determine the need for clinical services.

  1. Participate as a team member in the comprehensive evaluation, review, and re-evaluation process.
  2. Participate in the development of student IEPs. Complete required documentation in a timely manner.
  3. Adhere to required program guidelines as defined by the Federal and State law and regulation.
  4. Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and others concerning the needs of students and special services that are available.
  5. Assist teachers in the development and implementation of curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom strategies.
  6. Refer students and their families to appropriate community agencies and services.
  7. Cooperate with agencies serving students and their families.
  8. Provide therapy, follow-up, and/or consultation based on student IEPs.
  9. Give intervention preference to procedures instruction which can be infused in the classroom setting and delivered by classroom personnel.
  10. Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
  11. Demonstrate awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences.
  12. Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
  13. Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
  14. Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom management.
  15. Related to speech and language development, plan and implement transitional programs for students.
  16. Assist students in developing feelings of self-worth and in making social adjustments which permit them to cope with disabilities.
  17. Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports.
  18. Order and maintain an adequate inventory of materials and supplies.
  19. Supervise and train staff members as assigned.
  20. Assist with public awareness activities which lead to a better understanding of the needs of exceptional children.
  21. Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques.
  22. Ensure that interlocal policies are observed during all activities.
  23. Obtain advance approval for all special activities and expenditures.
  24. Adhere to all interlocal health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Blood-borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  25. Participate in third party reimbursement - SPECTRA Project.
  26. Availability to work Extended School Year.
  27. Respond in a positive manner to changes in assigned duties.
  28. Obtain advanced approval for all special activities or expenditures.
