Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing quality care to animals to the animals at the SEK Humane Society's animal shelter. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal care and cleaning. Our work will directly contribute to the health and well-being of animals under our care!
Animal Care Duties
- Provide daily care for shelter animals, including feeding, watering, and monitoring health.
- Clean and sanitize animal enclosures, cages, and kennels.
- Wash food/water bowls, litter pans, and bedding.
- Exercise animals as appropriate (dog walking, cat playtime, etc.).
- Monitor behavior and report any health or behavioral concerns to management.
Facility Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness of shelter areas (sweeping, mopping, dusting, laundry, trash removal).
- Restock supplies such as food, litter, and cleaning supplies.
- Ensure all equipment and tools are properly cleaned and stored.
Animal Welfare & Enrichment
- Provide enrichment and stimulation to promote animal well-being (toys, socialization, sensory activities).
- Assist with basic training, socialization, and behavior modification when needed.
Support
- Assist with intake of new animals (bathing, flea/tick treatments, vaccinations as trained).
- Prepare animals for adoption events or transport.
Customer Service
- Answer questions from the public and potential adopters.
- Assist with adoption counseling and meet-and-greets.
- Represent the shelter positively in public settings (events, outreach, etc.).
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety protocols, including wearing appropriate PPE (scrubs, gloves, gowns, etc.).
- Comply with state and local animal care regulations and shelter policies.
- Handle animals humanely and respectfully at all times.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years or older
- Have a completed GED
- Have your own transportation
- No allergies to dogs and cats
- Must be able to lift 50lbs (picking up large bags of dog food, picking up large dog)
