A multi-employer labor fund office is seeking a detail-oriented Benefits Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will manage employee benefits for approximately 1,000 participants while ensuring compliance with each employer's unique benefit rules and eligibility requirements.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently in a small, collaborative office environment. You should be a quick learner with strong attention to detail and excellent customer service skills. This position involves assisting participants with benefit-related questions both in person and over the phone.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer health and welfare benefits for approximately 1,000 participants.
- Maintain accurate benefit records and ensure compliance with each employer's benefit plan rules and requirements.
- Process benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations accurately and efficiently.
- Reconcile eligibility discrepancies bringing to the Administrative Manager questions or concerns.
- Respond to participant inquiries regarding eligibility, coverage, and benefits in person and by phone.
- Research and resolve benefit-related issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain confidentiality of participant information and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Identify and communicate process improvements that increase efficiency.
- Collaborate with outside vendors, team members, and leadership to ensure accurate and efficient benefits administration.
- Assist in other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- 1–2 years of experience in employee benefits administration or enrollment.
- Knowledge of COBRA and HIPAA regulations is required.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent accuracy and speed in data entry.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Working knowledge of standard office practices and procedures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software systems quickly.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
