Position Summary
The Director of Billing will oversee all billing operations for and DME services. This individual will lead billing staff, ensure accurate and timely claims submission, monitor reimbursement trends, and implement process improvements to maximize revenue and compliance. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong industry expertise who can guide the department through change and ensure smooth, efficient billing workflow.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the daily operations of the billing department, including claims submission, payment posting, denials management, and reporting.
- Ensure billing practices comply with federal, state, and payer-specific regulations (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payers).
- Oversee the full revenue cycle for DME services, ensuring timely reimbursement.
- Analyze billing performance metrics and implement strategies to improve accuracy, timeliness, and collection rates.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop policies, streamline processes, and introduce best practices.
- Train, mentor, and support billing staff; oversee performance evaluations and workload distribution.
- Address escalated billing issues and work closely with payers to resolve complex claims.
- Maintain thorough understanding of industry changes, coding updates, and reimbursement guidelines.
- Prepare and present billing and financial reports to senior management.
- Support organizational growth initiatives by providing billing expertise for new service lines or operational expansions.
Requirements
- DME billing experience required (minimum 3–5 years in a supervisory or management capacity preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) billing experience; strong understanding of DME regulations and payer requirements.
- Proven leadership experience in a healthcare billing or revenue cycle environment.
- Strong knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance billing guidelines.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with billing software, EMR/EHR systems, and reporting tools.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
