Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Commercial Demolition & Utility Safety Director to lead, develop, and enforce safety programs across all demolition and utility operations. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. This position requires a high level of organization, along with strong communication and time management skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and lead comprehensive safety programs for demolition and utility projects
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, company, and other applicable safety standards and regulations across all job sites
- Conduct and document regular job site inspections, audits, and risk assessments
- Lead incident responses and investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning
- Provide safety training, safety orientation, and ongoing education for employees and subcontractors
- Collaborate with pre-construction team and project managers to plan for safety requirements
- Accurately track and maintain safety and site documentation, including JSA’s (job safety analyses), weekly toolbox talks, and daily site reports
- Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and documentation
- Oversee hazard communication, PPE programs, and emergency response procedures
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all regulatory agencies and safety audits
- Assist SES in the development, revision, and implementation of new or updated policies, procedures, or task specific work instructions
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of safety management experience in commercial construction
- OSHA 500/510 required
- Technical, working knowledge of OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations and construction safety best practices
- Proven experience managing safety programs across multiple job sites
- Ability to identify hazards and implement effective mitigation strategies
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Experience conducting training sessions and leading safety meetings
- Demonstrated ability to produce and maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date records and documentation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHST (Certified Health and Safety Technician) certification
- Experience with underground utilities, excavation, and heavy equipment operations
- Familiarity with environmental and hazardous material regulations (e.g., asbestos, lead, silica)
