Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Electrical Design Engineer. Must have at least 2 years of experience with a switchgear manufacturer. The ideal candidate will have 3 years of experience in Electrical designs, be proficient in AutoCAD 2D. This role involves working closely with the engineering and production teams to develop innovative designs, provide factory floor support, and contribute to R&D initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop electrical approval drawings inclusive of single lines, three lines, control schematics and bill of materials for assigned projects.
- Update approval packages as required based on design review and customer feedback.
- Prepare and release electrical manufacturing drawings inclusive of wiring diagrams, interconnection diagrams and bill of materials to production and purchasing.
- Ensure drawings are released and parts are ordered in time to support the production build schedule.
- Address manufacturing component mounting assembly and wiring activities as needed.
- Provide technical support to sales and company distributors in support of the company’s quality customer service effort.
- Participate in R&D projects. Align and actively contribute to the company’s quality improvement initiatives.
- Stay abreast of technical product developments through literature review and industry developments.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by management to ensure company goals and objectives are met.
- Collaborate with Mechanical engineers to ensure mechanical and electrical integration of components.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable standards, customer specifications, and manufacturing capabilities.
- Maintain accurate documentation and revision control for all design files and drawings.
- Communicate effectively across departments, supporting smooth project execution and timely delivery.
Competencies:
- Design single phase, three phase and DC protection and control circuits.
- Accurately select protection, metering, and control components such as circuit breakers and protection devices based on the required application.
- Understanding of the requirements for proper breaker selection and cable sizing based on application.
- Application of power distribution and/or control schemes for electrical equipment and systems such as switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, electrical control panels, and power distribution circuits.
- Create electrical schematics, control wiring plans, interconnection diagrams, and cable schedules from control schematics and power feed diagrams.
- Understanding control relay logic and PLCs a plus.
- Understanding and application of NEC, IEEE, ANSI, and UL standards to electrical design is a plus.
- Understanding of panelboards, switchboards, and switchgears
- Exposure to ERP-integrated design environments.
Skills:
- High-level of competency in AutoCAD (knowledge of AutoCAD electrical or similar software a plus).
- Well-versed in MS Office suite applications.
- Experience with Low voltage electrical design; preferably in the power distribution industry.
- Manage multiple jobs and competing requirements by confidently making critical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication to clearly communicate with internal and external customers.
- Ability to use reasoning and logic to develop creative and practical solutions and apply past proven solutions to solve new problems.
- Highly adaptable and detail-oriented professional with excellent time management, multitasking, and problem-solving skills, able to thrive under pressure and deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within peer, production, and sales engineering teams.
- Read technical drawings, project specifications, and clearly communicate technical information to others.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution with two to four years’ experience in electrical manufacturing / electrical construction, OR
- Two years associate degree in electrical engineering technology with three to five years’ experience in electrical manufacturing / electrical construction.
Position Location:
This position is based on-site at our Humble, TX Illinois factory and requires presence in the factory five days per week to collaborate directly with production, engineering, supply chain and quality teams.
Salary : $95,000 - $110,000
