Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Charge Nurse is responsible for nursing care and managing efficiency of the ambulatory surgery center. Tasks
include staff assignments and scheduling, performance evaluation of clinical staff, ensuring patient's needs are met in all
situations, ensuring consistent, high quality of care provided by nursing team. Oversees direct patient care needs and
communicates appropriate information to physicians, leadership, patients, family members, and personnel in all
departments. May have additional responsibilities as designated by the Clinical Manager including but not limited to:
serving on committees, participating in quality improvement audits and projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following:
- Monitors performance of clinical staff and ensures efficient function of the clinical department per guidance and direction provided by the Clinical Manager.
- Staffing responsibilities include but are not limited to: new staff orientation, prepares staff schedule and assignments in accordance with center guidelines, adjust staffing plan as needed
- Collaborates with Clinical Manager to identify staff candidates, participates in interviews, and performance evaluations of nursing team
- Assists with the QAPI Program by inputting data such as log recording and incident report filing, assists with enforcing and monitoring QAPI indicators, coordinates quarterly drills with the Clinical Manager to educate and prepare staff
- Assists with medication distribution by performing daily counts and distribution of narcotics to the CRNA staff; ensures the Narcotics Logs are kept correct and accurate; serves as or delegates role of Pharmacy RN for the center
- Ensures highest level of quality care is provided to all patients
- Patient care responsibilities include but are not limited to: coordinating patient care activities with surgeons and CRNAs to provide continuity of patient care, enforces nursing practice standards and licensing/accreditation rulesand regulations to provide quality patient care, responds to emergency situations and maintains competencies
- Ensures adherence to regulatory guidelines
- Works alongside center leadership to implement best practices and ensure safety in the workplace
- Acts as center leader/ point of contact in absence of Clinical Manager.
- Uses problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members
- Maintains required competencies
- Acts as a patient advocate and maintains privacy and confidentiality of all appropriate information.
- Completes all mandatory compliance training.
- Other duties as assigned
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position is in a clinical office setting that involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety
precautions. Position includes occupational Category 1 exposure to bloodborne pathogens; exposure to chemical
hazards.

- Good computer skills including use of standard office programs

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or an Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited school of
nursing required; Current registered nurse licensure in State of employment is required; BLS / ACLS / PALS Certified is
required; CPAN, CAPA, and / or CNOR, preferred; Minimum of 3 years of perioperative nursing experience in an
ambulatory surgery center setting; Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards
Compliance training and testing is required annually and as needed.
