Staff Backend engineer

About The Role

We are seeking a Backend Engineer to take deep ownership of the core platform services that power all of our products. In this role, you will drive the evolution of our backend architecture by identifying opportunities to improve or rebuild foundational systems, scoping and delivering significant engineering initiatives, and shaping the technical direction of the platform.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working across multiple domains and is excited to learn new technologies and unfamiliar subject areas.

You will primarily work with Python, GraphQL, CI/CD systems, infrastructure-as-code (AWS with Terraform), and a variety of modern AI-powered development tools.

What You'll Do

• Own and evolve the shared backend services that support all product teams
• Identify platform gaps and opportunities, then drive independently scoped engineering projects from concept to completion
• Make architectural and technology decisions to enable new services and capabilities
• Collaborate closely with product engineers to build practical, effective solutions
• Improve platform reliability, observability, testing, and developer experience
• Leverage modern AI tools to accelerate development and enhance engineering workflows
  
  

What We’re Looking For:

• Strong experience with backend development, ideally in Python
• Experience designing and implementing APIs (GraphQL experience is a plus)
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
• Comfort working across multiple technical domains and learning quickly
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
• A bias toward ownership, fast iteration, and hands-on prototyping
• Intellectual honesty, curiosity, and a willingness to experiment and continuously improve
